I'm sure many of you have bid on auctions. I do online auctions all the times without any problems. I'm curious about if any deaf/HOH people have done public auctions? Most interested in how you made accommodations for that. I mean you cannot hear the auctioneer announcing bids. Do you bring a friend who is hearing? Hire an interpreter? Not bother doing auctions on site knowing those obstacles you will face?

I have only participated in silent auctions where you write your bid on a form. Interesting question though.

When I was in high school - I went with my mother to a few auctions. Let me tell you - with blaring speakers - auctioneer speaking so fast - it made my head spin so I turned my HA off as it was driving me crazy.

To this date, I have never gone to an open or closed auction since NO ONE wants to pay for a terp for an off chance that a deaf/HOH might make a winning bid. If you can find a terp going pro bono and who is willing to go with you and has experience being at an auction then go for it.
I never will go since there is no created need to go to one. I'd rather take my chances online with ebay with something I can see.
