I tend to disagree with this statement. A child does better with their own family simply because it is a *voice* or attitude and or body language that they interact with on a daily basis, as compared to in a school setting that they only interact with 6 hours for 5 days a week,9 months out of the year.
Even I, with my hearing aids always understood and socialized more easily with my family than I did with my hearing friends. The reason for that was that my family was more familiar to me and I was able to understand what they were saying more easily.
