some explanation - Polish language have way more letters, for example ć - is soft "c" as opposed to a hard "c",
(hard to explain as there is no similar sounds in English),
and it goes similarly for most of the vowels,
while vowels sound a bit differently, for example o sound like 'oh'
but ó sound like "oo".

Enjoy!

ah, whatta heck

also 'good day' ( Dzień Dobry- something to the tune: (very softly)
gen - dohbry, with y like Gary)
(dzien - day, good - dobry)

Actually it seems like it would be easier sense they add the "accents" to let you know how a letter is pronounced. But I think I'd hate to remember how to write the letters.

One if the reasons English is hard is because letters & letter combos can be pronounced differently.

Sorry, too early for me to try to come up with examples. Zzz :D

Sounds just as fun and complicated as Romanian. :D

yep, about right :)

I have been to Romania in the 1975.
Beautiful country, beautiful people, back then both ravaged by the commmies.

I've been to București, - but didn't dare to bare at its famous nude beach, although I've met a Sweedish couple who weren't afraid to, lol
btw the lady knew SL and worked with deaf people!, so we were able to communicate thru some signs.

also Mamaia and Constanța :)

Great memories! ahhhh, to be young again!

At beach, a lady walk to this guy and asked him to rub her back with a sunscreen lotion. Several other guys wondered why she picked him, because he is the one with ćhuj.

:laugh2: Well not many are so brave to bare it all out there... I haven't either myself, so don't feel bad! :ugh: I believe my mother and father told me stories of how they used to go on a regular basis... disturbing... :ugh:

I am impressed with your knowledge of accurate pronunciation! Most people call it Bucharest. :P My family and I are from București, Romania. :P We visit annually of course, yes it is beautiful. Yes, yes... Sounds like you went when we were still under our communism crap of that ass tart Nicolae Ceaușescu. Of course, the Romanian people killed him Christmas of 1989 and took care of that issue. I was born when he was still leading Romania, but I don't remember much from that time. Apparently I was present when he was killed by firing squad that day... Took 2 hours to put him on trial and convict him and then sentence and carry out the death penalty of death by firing squad... Talk about swift justice... Romania doesn't care! :laugh2: Hearing stories from my Grandparents and parents I always wondered how much different the times really were between then and now... :hmm: I say if I were to ever move from Florida, I would move back to Romania. :P

Did you get a chance to go see any of the Castles out there? They are absolutely gorgeous... Vlads ( Bran ) castle is one of my favorites. I suppose it is a great story since he is so well known to the Romanian people as a hero but everyone around the world knows him as Dracula a vampire. :laugh2: The castle is amazing though. Amazing how a normal human hero can go to a flying vampire bat... :dunno:

Here's Lithuanian sign language:

I didn't pay much attention to the video, but I thought he used curious the way it's used in ASL. I remember them working to make a formal, one country language probably 15 years ago or a bit more and there was a lot of influence from ASL on the language.

And the alphabet, you can see that we have different letters for the different sounds like Polish does, as well as missing some letters (no q, no x) compared to English.

The Lithuanian Sign Language are similar to Russian Sign Language. I understand him 95%, but when he finger spell, I'm unable to understand him.

Well, I've been to Bucuresti, so it would be embarrassing not to know its original name :)
yep, I was when it was under severe communist rule, so severe that when we Poles tried to talk about Ceausescu to native Romanians they immediately shushed us, fearfully looked about and begged not to talk about him.
moreover, we happened to be in Constanta and Mamaya during some national holiday and with our own eyes we've seen the preparations to celebrations.
or maybe it was my friend who was to Bucuresti who saw that - sorry, can't remember but this did happend:

there were huge columns of people to be marched in front of where Ceausescu and his cohort was supposed to be seating at the podium at the parade.
for rehearsal they used a huge poster of him.
the columns of each -oh, can't remember 10-15 -20 people ? more ?
stood in place, while the first row marched ahead, stopped in front of the Ceausescu poster at some distance, and at the same time all bowed to him as low as possible. then they parted, went to the sides,
while meantime the next row marched ahead, bowed , parted, went away, and the next row, and the next, and the next.
to perform without a hitch at the real thing.

It was unreal.
We Poles were under communist regime too, but THIS was something else.
Total and utter oppression, no mercy, fear everywhere, persecutions at every step...
just horrible. nowhere else, Hungary, Czechs, Bulgaria but in Romania I felt too well what it's like to live in communist state.

I absolutely do understand why would people do what they did to Nikolae and Elena Ceausescu.
btw, I think it's only fitting they would choose for their presidential retreat Snagov, which is the resting place of Vlad the Impaler, later known as Dracula.
then while fleeing, they landed in Târgovişte - where Vlad's had his Royal Court. also how very fittingly.
that's where they were captured -the Ceausescus.

Sadly, I don't remember much from my stay in Romania, so sorry - I've been 18 at the time, spent equal time partying, recovering and touring lol
but I do remember well that Romania was beautiful, even back then already being driven to the ground by the regime.

The capital's architecture was amazing, and I did seen a lot of castles,
particularly remember climbing up some bell tower in Constanta,
and boys with their moist brown bottomless eyes were to die for :)

:laugh2: Nice!

Yes, I do enjoy how Vlad has been turned into a vampire legend these days when he was such a great hero to the Romanian people.... *facepalm* Absolutely nothing like the actual Romanian hero himself.... Almost makes you think about what else has completely been flipped and turned around from its original story that's out there, you know?

It was very fitting that is where they were captured, I always enjoyed that tid bit of irony. :P

I had a friend of mine tell me our family surnames sounded similar to his.... I told him the trick to remembering any Romanian surname was if it ended in U, it was probably Romanian. :P Of course, there are some exceptions out there, but not too many. :P

I don't blame you for partying it up while you were out there. When I go visit for my two weeks out there, my cousins and I go out and I tend to not remember my last week... :ugh: ( The first week is usually around Christmas.... :P ) So, I can't blame you there.... alcohol is cheap and definitely plentiful and it's definitely more potent than anything you'd ever dream of finding here... :laugh2:
