Jeremiah Hill becomes third underage person in Jacksonville area charged as an adult this summer
A 13-year-old accused of fatally shooting a Jacksonville man during a gun deal will be tried as an adult, the third time in recent weeks that a juvenile’s charges have been elevated.
Jeremiah Elijah Hill has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree in the death of 25-year-old Tony Vernon Johnson. He has also been charged with the attempted murder of 24-year-old Stephon Graham, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent.
His cousin — 18-year-old Keyshawn Nelson Hill — also is charged with murder. Police are still looking for a third man, 17-year-old Cameron Sneed.
Police said the three drove to a North Main Street gas station June 10 to trade handguns with Johnson. After the exchange, Johnson was gunned down. Graham also was at the gas station and was shot several times as he tried to flee. The shooting was captured on surveillance cameras.
Two other youths in the Jacksonville area have recently been charged as adults — 16-year-old Edgar Robles, in the May 14 shooting of two girls on a Jacksonville school bus, and 15-year-old Sergio Morgan-Wideman in the May 19 shooting of a store clerk in St. Augustine.
Sharron “Tommy” Townsend, 13, also is charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the June 2014 shooting death of a homeless man at a strip mall on 103rd Street.
