Although it's not a deaf-only event, it is a huge event where some deaf people do go to.
Anyways, there's an anime convention coming up. It runs from Friday morning (May 30th) to Sunday afternoon (June 1st). This will be their 19th annual convention.
They have workshops, dealer room, video rooms, game rooms, art rooms, etc...
The dealer room is HUGE! They have booths/tables by companies from all over the world selling products ranging from mangas (comic books), magazines, videos, games, posters, scrolls, clothing, weapons, models, toys, card/board games, cos-play, etc.
The workshops are all day in different rooms. They range from learning to draw, understanding anime, how RPG works, understanding hentai, etc.
The video rooms are huge rooms with a projector showing anime (sometimes live action) all day and all night long. It runs non-stop from when the convention starts to when the convention ends. They have several rooms with schedules provided. So, if anyone is curious about what a specific anime is about or want to watch an anime... they can just walk in, sit down, and enjoy!
The art rooms are usually where artists can bring their artwork to be evaluated by experts and other members. Sometimes, companies can offer jobs to these artists if the work is good enough.
Card games? Ever play Magic? Ever play Pokemon? There are many card games and they also host tournaments for these games as well.
And... the fun part is seeing people dressed up for cos-play. A lot of people dress up as their favorite anime character. Sometimes, there will be people who dress up as video game characters, movie characters, and comic book characters. Last year, I saw "Frank" from Donnie Darko, "Starscream" from Transformers (classic), "Master Chief" from Halo, "GIR" from Invader Zim, and "Pyramid Head" from Silent Hill.
You can check out the website... A-Kon® 19! May 30, 31 & June 1, 2008 at The Adam's Mark Hotel Dallas, Texas
Any of you thinking of going? I know there are some anime fans here in AllDeaf.
