On Friday, the West Virginia state legislature voted overwhelmingly to override Governor Earl Ray Tomblin’s veto of a bill which would ban abortions after 20 weeks. Earlier in the week, the governor had vetoed the bill for the second time in two years, citing constitutionality concerns.

West Virginia state senators voted 27-5 to override the veto, though only a simple majority was needed to ensure that the bill would become law. 90 days from today, abortions after 20 weeks will effectively be illegal in West Virginia.

When it comes to the issue of abortion, I am on the fence. I live in South Dakota (one of the biggest abortion opposing states there is), and my state tried outlawing abortions completely (even if it was rape or incest), and I'm glad that kind of ban never passed. Personally, I don't necessarily agree with most reasons for abortion, but I don't think the state should have the power to overturn a federally mandated law. If I were a victim of rape, I'm not sure what I would do. That being said however, I do support West Virginia overriding the veto. Neonatal viability starts at 24 weeks, and I've heard of some babies surviving being born at 22 weeks. :) As somebody who survived birth at 28 weeks, I'm appalled that some people think late-term abortion is an option.:jaw::twisted::mad::barf:

Wow 22 weeks and 28 weeks. Amazing.

Im not getting involved in the abortion debate as I have different perspective on different circumstances. One example one of my old interps I knew was pregnant with quads dont recall how many months she was showing like 7 month signle child but had to abort 2 to save her life and 2 of 4. She was so heartbroken and it showed interpreting for me. I dont know what happened to her as she got sick leave before semester was over.

But 20 weeks is 4 months along...quite a time almost halfway to 9 months. I just know some people are getting abortion atfer another. Just get sterilized! I just know nature is very extraordinary.

up to 22 weeks on special grounds before that then womans right..i think it awful women still having to fight for this...if you against abortion then don't have one but don't moralize to other women..i not fighting to take your rights away so don't fight take my rights away...if women having abortion one after the other then going be crap parents all the more reason to do it
