Woman Says Pit Bull Attacked Dog, Then Went After Her
MIDDLEBURG, Fla. -- A Middleburg woman who's five months pregnant is recovering after an attack by two pit bulls believed to be trained fighting dogs.
Clay County deputies said Kayla Treen and her boyfriend were riding their bikes past a neighbor's house in Middleburg with their two dogs when two unleashed pit bulls pounced on the couple and their pets.
The dogs bit Treen on her arms and legs and severely injured her smaller dog, Blaze. The two teens called Treen's father for help, and he arrived with a handgun.
Dale Treen shot the more aggressive pit bull in the head, killing it. Clay County deputies said wounds on the dogs prove the pit bulls appeared to have been trained to fight.
"I was just thinking, 'Thank God my dad showed up,' and I said, ‘Shoot it, shoot it, please,’” Kayla Treen said. “It had my dog in its mouth and it scared me to death.”
"I got up behind it. It tried to bite me, and that's when I shot it," Dale Treen said.
Middleburg residents said this isn't the first time the two pit bulls had been seen running free in the neighborhood. The other pit bull involved in the attack is in quarantine with Clay County Animal Care and Control officers.
The state attorney's office is still reviewing the attack.
