Deafscuba98 and I were talking recently about the "reputation" feature here on AD v3. While it can be beneficial to the community that posts and reads here, I feel that it is being misused. I've received negative reputations without explaination, or just a smiley face. I also think its a feature that many of us on here are not mature enough to handle.

I kind of want it to go away, so without offending anyone, I'd like to post a poll about it. :)

I just thought it was pointless. I didnt know about it till you told me about it, and even still i cant find coments about my posts, like that time i told pdp i hated him... and people gave me neg's, and that time i told him to stop posting, and got more... So, people saying things about my posts wont stop me from telling him to stop posting, or that i hate him.

I don't see that reputation points are benefical to everyone, so therefore, they are mainly pointless and useless. I agree with you definitely.

i agree with pinkster here... I notice that people tend to give a negative Reputation with no explain.. or giving a postive reputation without explain.. this sounds silly to me..

giving a negative reputation without explaination of why its bad post is a rude form of giving people bad reps..

also why would people simply disagree with you on something and give you a bad reputation? a bad reputation is just for Bad post.. bad influence, or so... not just cuz u disagree..
 
Yeah, as a matter of fact I was thinking about this just a few hours ago and I was going to make a post suggesting exactly the same thing. But I got sidetracked and forgot about it. I say just toss the whole thing, but why not put it to a vote? If I might make a criticism, though, I think the poll should run until the end of the month, and only have two options: yes or no. Keep it simple and straightforward.

Amen! That's how I exectly feel.. I been getting alot of those in Ci and of course no Respond why they disagree with my post I have got a smiling face and even blank respond.. I thought to myself what is the reason for this bad rating?

When you go to your "User CP" right below the AD picture in the upper-left hand corner, the main screen of that shows you your rep points. (Or lack of.) *goes upstairs in a few mins to bug him and show him* :D

Hmm. I like the number of answers I have, because it kind of gives a bit of a wider perspective of how responsive people are on here. Altho I did only set it to 7 days tho. I didnt really think much that way.

I'd much rather see it all go away immediately, but hey, I need evidence and support to back up what I want to happen. Its like Mass Meetings at the Deaf club, dont make a motion without a person to second it. :D
 
I understand how you all feel. I made a post questioning the belief of God. Someone ended up giving me a bad rating because of that. They didn't even leave a comment or anything. Jeez!
 
not wanna be mean or anything, but i for one think, we should keep this, for a good reason IF a person gave bad posting u can reread it, and then think abt it sometimes ur hints or clues will be right there before you relize it u can retify it or just leave it be or talk to that person u feel u know that the person did and talk abt the situation there via pm or in posting which ever is perfereable, but taking critcitism and then saying its rude not to give a reason for its bad rep posting, maybe they don't want to explain it and let u find out for urself. or best yet, not disrespect u in a bad way but making u be *alert* for this. and letting u know they disagree, NOT abt agreeing or DISAGREEING the posting. its abt one thing they have thier own opioion and we have our own as well. so thats my thought of the day before i go brain dead :)

I never gave a damn about the rating system. It does not matter to me if it is kept to give somebody the jollies or not. However, I realize some of you might not feel the same so I voted to get rid of it. I have gotten a couple of so-so and bad reviews from something I have posted in the thread Enough is Enough. I also got a thumb up for that very same post. :lol: I have forgetten I posted something there. Apparently I hit a nerve and became someone's savior. I have never given anyone bad reviews because I think it's low below the belt, and I would PM any of you personally if I thought you had room for improvement. What's wrong with old fashioned PM? :ugh2:

I vote for saying bye bye to the reputation........I got some negs cuz they didnt like my response but i understand if it was slander or racial slurs..... but if they just disagree say it dont just hide and click for neg rep........ that is what PM is for.....talk to the person......
 
Even though I think it builds character, I feel that the rating system is starting to get abused by overzealous members. I think that the rating system should be modified that people cannot post blank reputations no matter if they are good or bad. People should give more feedback when they click approve or disapprove. I even got a bad rep point for posting a joke!

That makes sense... I wouldnt mind having a rating system, as long as it is used wisely with some modifications. The post I made in Enough is Enough was not insulting anyone nor did it contain slander either. The two persons just gave me a lousy rating because they didn't like what I had to say. Period. Sad. Even sadder when you make a joke that gets you some bad points! :eek:
 
Felt that Reputation Feature or Rating System rob our freedom of speech. We are mature enuff to using common sense before saying something. If u feel offend then PM or report bad post to mods/Alex.

Got unfriendly point from anonymous cuz of me teasing on other person. Oh please! Make me feel that they cannot deal with my naughty personality.

Voted YES for get rid of that dumb system or feature whatever u called.
 
What about allowing the people to see who gave the rating or not? It might be a double edged sword!

I am starting to add my name to the rep points I give. I am not afraid to show my opinion!

Thats exactly how I feel, I think it can be a really good thing, but it is being misused way too much. I still feel that we, as a whole, cannot handle being able to have such a feature. There are people here, such as yourself, who can handle it, and give out reputations as seen appropriate. But in other ways there are members who are out to get other members and just disregard all proper behavior.

Im not the type of person to ruffle feathers, but I dont think this forum should encourage this kind of behavior, it defeats the purpose of the whole forum.
 
Let’s see…Deaf258 gets a bad rep for posting a joke, Lasza gets one for participating in the daily bash, and the Vampster gets torched because he doesn’t believe in God. Should they get the death penalty, or is life imprisonment sufficient? What’s next—I don’t like your avatar? You posted a pic of your doggie in the pet thread and he’s not cute enough? You’re a disgrace to humanity because your ear molds aren’t color coordinated with your shoes? Some knuckle dragging Neanderthal who types with the caps lock on left me a red mark a few weeks ago because I said something encouraging to try to cheer up a sad person!

Here’s a thought—instead of scrapping the reputation system, modify it so that a user can only leave a green mark. That way, a member’s reputation can only be good or neutral. The members who have a lot of green marks can walk around with the warm fuzzies all day because they’ve made a beneficial contribution to the message board, and the members with the neutral reps can see what the high rep people are posting and evaluate their own posts accordingly, if they so choose. Here’s another thought—once a week, a member who has received at least one mark that week will have all the comments they received that week made public. The member would be chosen at random by computer—no chance of favoritism. Members can then see exactly what it is that other members approve of, and why they approve.
