Who wants a teenager/youth forum on here?
I think it would be a great idea but I need votes

I don't think it's a good idea. it has a liability issue. sucks to be in litigious country....

we will still be replyin to your thread and stuff. i feel like its a bad idea now lol

yes but thing is... in teen/youth thread... the nature of posts can pose a liability issue. For example - if they talk about unreported abuse or sexual related or whatsoever... or if they posted a certain picture (not necessarily nudity-related)... or the adults advising teens/youths on something. it's going to cause a legal trouble for Alex. Think about what will happen if their parents saw it. They will get angry and may sue Alex for whatever.

That's why you see in many sites for teens have term of agreement and rules but it will still pose a problem. Look at myspace, friendster, etc. They were hit with several lawsuits for "failing to provide adequate protection for minors" and such. Major major headaches.

nothing's simple anymore.... :mad2:

Most of the legal issues should be taken care of when they sign up and register for the forum. The disclaimer is always given at some point should someone want to interact with others.

However, I am not aware of the current legal age of consent for applying onto a forum and do not have time to look it up. It would appear to me from experience that various sites have different forum reg policies, varying from free-to-all to 13+ or 18+ or 21+ and that you have to pass an age verification - which obviously we all know is easily bypassed, should you find something to say regarding it. In a court of law, this would most likely result in an outcome of this suit before it even came up because they illegitimately signed up for something they weren't legally eligible for. I think that's how the court preceding with internet related stuff goes.

The registration rules are simple, and null domain registrants of AD.com free of any general liability:

What we really need is Alex's input on it.
Logically speaking, Alldeaf is made to be put into an experience for users of all "general age" alike to enjoy. However to most of the commons here we can easily distinguish much of the content here is in form of adult-type dicussions, bias, subject to criticism, it could be a politically hostile environment for most first time innocent bystanders who sign up - and in this case, we are referring to the teens. That's how I can tell, they have been constantly stating that they feel out of place in our so-called "civilized discussions".

naisho - yes you are correct but unfortunately it's not that simple. Look at lawsuits against myspace/youtube/craigslist. It's exactly like what you just talked about.

btw - your heath-ledger joker impersonation freaks me out..... with that lip twitch thing.. bbrrrr

You risk those things by allowing ANY youth onto the site- not just by creating a specific forum. I think it might be a good idea to have a place for teenagers alone to discuss age-specific issues, but don't think it's absolutely necessary. US law requires that you obtain consent for a minor under 13 to register for a website. 13 and over, they read the TOS, it's their problem.

again - read about legal cases against myspace. not that simple as you think. it's the old trick in the book. You sue them even though your case will get thrown out. it depends on who has the money to dish it out. Alex doesn't. They do. What happens if Alex can't get a lawyer to argue at court that it's a frivolous case and it should be dismissed? Alex has to fold and AD goes bye bye. old trick - just bleed them out till they go broke.

Ok, lets just forget about my suggestions, it's obviously not going to happen, it was just an idea. I know some peopleon here have asked for their own section e.g deafblind and theyv not been able to get it so what chance have i got

Should have just let the thread die.;)

Well, that depends on what forum/section you want to participate. Some are not good for teens like for example " dating " section -- just be aware that there are some wackos and psychos out there that may fool to some teens about their ages, whereabouts, and so forth.

I think it would be a good idea for teens to get involved in some threads that helped teachin'/advicin' teens about the walks of life, how some of issues hurt to some people and how they live through it, and so on. This forum is for education and share their experiences. :)

Alex is the owner of this AD and if, you have any questions regardin' this forum or section, you are more than welcome to PM him or one of his moderators.

Enjoy readin', by the way. ;)

Alex was the one who suggested doing a poll to see how many people wanted the youth forum

Hmm, maybe you could try polling the general forum because I think about 90% of the visitors missed the poll here, it's a very quiet section here.

No, it's not good idea and I don't want chat with minors.

if there is a adult section for the "dirty things" then i think it shud be allowed to have a teen section of the forum..and it should be put in the disclaimer that by singing up and saying you are 13+ and such...i know other forums that do this and they have teen sections...there must be a way around the legalities..

that's the problem. the most simplest way to get around with it is to lie your age and that's when administrator will get sued for failing to prevent that.
