MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — An injured deer is recovering at a wildlife rehabilitation facility after three Mt. Pleasant police officers rescued it Sunday.

Mt. Pleasant Police say Pfc. Kittle responded to a report of an injured deer on Rifle Range Road Sunday, where he found the animal suffering from a broken hind leg and tangled in briars.

Two other officers — Cpl. Zeitner and Ofc. Morgan — happened by soon after, and stopped to assist Kittle.

The three cut the deer free of the briars, wrapped it in a blanket and placed it in the back seat of one of their cruisers.

Video released by Mt. Pleasant PD shows one of the officers riding in the back seat with the deer, and even trying to place a seatbelt around the injured animal as they transported it to Veterinary Specialty Care on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard.

Veterinarians there treated the deer, and have since relocated it to a wildlife rehabilitation facility, police say.

Video of the officers helping the deer is included on this page.

ABC News 4 is attempting to meet with the officers involved in order to get more information about this story.

I'm sorry that there's no CC on the police video but there's mostly highway noises, the sound of tape being wrapped around the deer, and the police giving directions to each other. There's no reporter voice over.
