Back when I was in 3rd grade in 1986 or 1987, one of my classmates got a CI. He didn't last very long with it. It didn't seem to help him. One other classmate teased him. Wow, you got a CI surgery and it's not helping. He replied that he thought the surgery was something else. From my understanding, the CI surgery was fully his own decision. Keep in mind that that 4th graders are capable of making those decisions.

If it worked for him, then maybe I would have gotten CI. It didn't work for him so I figured ththat CI would be helpless for me.

I'm just talking about my own experience. You can share your opinion or story here if you want to.

How is this peer pressure?

I'm sure a lot of deaf kids without CI would look at those with CI. Hey, see, he/she is 10 years old just like me. CI is helping him/her. I want one too!!!

If CI seems to not work for him/her, then other kids will say, this is ridiculous. I wouldn't want CI.

That's not peer pressure.

Right.

Peer pressure would be if your classmates said you were a looser for not having a CI, and if you got a CI then they'd be your friends, or you'd be cool etc.

You need to translate that to turbo code:

Peer pressure would be if your friends all said you were a loser for having a turbocharged engine, and you decide to remove the turbocharger in order for your friends to think you are cool.

I don't think he'd ever fall victim for that particular peer pressure.
