Just found about it a while ago.

I haven't been on Facebook that long. Someone from Deaf Community that I know some of you who have read their perspectives about Paul and Tina's signalong that they are not comfortable about the GOFUNDME.

SO I haven't follow up with the paul and tina's signalong. BUT i am puzzled as to why they asked for GOFUNDME. Again, like I said, i haven't follow up with, but i plan to. I have been so busy at home and in life. This is the reason this debating between paul and tinas signalong between with Some of the Deaf community's concerns about " gofundme" that got my attention.

what do you think of this?

As of right now I dont know what to think yet. Im going to read more about it.

They said on Facebook that they need a new camcorder to do their signalongs. I am sure they have a good reason to do a fundraising.

Well, I see some real hard-core ASL people using the term of "ASL appropriation"....meaning "steal"..........In a way it bothers me but I don't have a good argument as to why they should not be doing this so......

Correction: I meant to say "cultural appropriation"

If I remember correctly, they said "for equipment" or something like that......

I heard they want to raise money for their wedding . It's ok to do this to have fun bec they are not professionally interpreting your job interview or medical appointment. I don't agree with the Gofundme business . That's going to far if they want to fund raise make it part of the deaf community funding for Deaf Domestic violence , education for the deaf etc

I just hope it is not a scam for GOFUNDME. I have never heard of this. If it is about the bride getting ready to marry Paul or the groom vice versa, then that may be the way for them to raise some money for the wedding. :dunno:

If that's what your heard is true i agree it is not a good idea!

It really doesn't matter what they are raising funds for. The real question here is: Do you agree with them making money off of our language/culture? Is it, as they say, "cultural appropriation"?

You are right. No it isnt in my own eyes.

Ok, just so I am clear: You do not think it is stealing from our culture, right? Meaning that you are okay with what they are doing.....

Let me clarify, I do not keep up with tracking of their comments on FB.. I do not know or am not sure what they are doing by having a"gofundme" for what?

I dont know if they teach ASL by receving the gofundme. I dont know if i like it or not. they are not native with ASL. No offended intent.

Correct ! I don't agree with them making money for themselves . At least , they can give back by funding deaf education, deaf
Domestic violence, or any thing related to deaf community .

who??? the one with hearing husband and terp wife?

Well, I need a brand new shoes to walk everyday, I should set up GOFUNDME account to earn free money in order to get shoes. Get my drift?

I say they should work their ass off to buy their own equipment for their OWN entertainment purpose.

There is one woman from Canada who need a special van plus maybe a electric wheelchair for the GOFUNDME on my Facebook notification. I was very surprise to see that. Very interesting. Also she is Native who is wheelchair bound. So maybe it is safe to have a fundraising to help this woman get her needs.

If the Deaf community need something for their need(s), then maybe they can try go for GOFUNDME. This is a new project to me. So maybe it is safe. :dunno:

Kickstarters, Gofundme, and many other platforms are crowdfunding. Depends on which website you use, some are focused for tech start ups, some for general need, some for small businesses. There's many of them.

What they do is crowd fund. It's easier to raise, let's say, $1000 by asking 100,000 people for $1 instead of one person for $1000.

They only take money from you when your goal is met. If you ask for $1000 and only got $995 within the time frame nobody gets charged for anything and your fundraiser is over.

If your idea sells, you may get more than you ask for.

Yes, they're safe. If you guys want to contribute to any of the projects on these website, have fun!

They only work if you have a very very and I mean VERY good network in Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc. even then you'd need people who are willing to part with their money.

I know whereof i speak...crowdfunding is a very difficult thing to do because there are SO many out there right now all clamoring for attention.
