Patriot release Brandon Spikes /car found abandoned after accident

Brandon Spikes only been on the team for about 3 weeks and he already history . Is a background check done on players before they're picked for a team ?

The above is for before the NFL draft and aimed at college players. I don't think it affects players already within NFL franchise but have a feeling that teams still have the option to do background checks on any player.

I guess we'll find out soon or later just was driving the car when it rear ended another car. Brandon could had been drunk or on drugs and abandoned his car.
