My parents think that I don't need asl since I wear hearing aids and that speak rather well they think I hear every little thing the world only because there are 2 of them the world has about 7 billion what should I do to explain to them I need asl and it would be good for them to learn as well

Turn off your voice, and sign ASL to your parents. Make your parents figure out what you are trying to say in sign language.

That is actually a Rlly good idea but what happens if they get mad or just laugh it off? But it's actually a really good idea I might try it

I think you are old enough to know what you want to learn.

ASL is part of deaf culture and they need to accept that.

You can show them how beautiful it is.

Try to attend to your local ASL social (if have any?) and you will enjoy learning ASL with other peers. One day your parents will see your happy SMILE when signing ASL to others that will make your parents to realize why didn't we learn ASL before?

Where in Califorina?

Hey there's asl social at second floor food court at Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara at 8pm tonight. Last week I went there, and I see many hearing people know little ASL and they are there to socialize. I will not be there tonight as I have a plan.

Facebook - type "Deaf Chat Valley Fair Mall" for more details.

How long could you possibly want to talk to your parents? You are almost grown up. Go find deaf people.

Valley Fair Mall my old stomping grounds. I lived there when they built that mall. Small world.

She is only 15 yo , I really doubt that her parents would want her going to a mall alone at 8 PM . I would not let my 15 yo child go out alone at night.

I did this, at first my mom was really pissed off, "if your hearing aids aren't working we should take them in", but then she realized how they could only do so much and how much my conversations rely on them, so I taught her every new word/concept I used by signing it or spelling it if necessary. I think she really got it when my extreme temper vanished. Albeit my mother is a very open minded person..

I grew up oral and speak. I started having trouble at school probably around 8th grade is when it got really bad. I learned about Deaf culture and ASL and really wanted to try it. I asked my mom and she said I was fine where I was. As time went on things got worse. This past summer I went to a summer program at my state school for the deaf and loved it. I am now attending school there as a sophomore. It took some convincing and things got worse before they got better but I am really happy where I'm at. Just keep trying to tell your family how important it is for you

As a deaf rights advocate I think that if a parent has their kid learn to speak, the parents need to be fair and learn ASL for their kid.
Point out that with ASL you won't have to say "what?" all the time....it's hard to learn but point out that it was just as hard for you to learn to speak...Now its her turn to meet you halfway.

Would you like people telling your kids they should not talk to you too long?
Part of the problem with society today is that family do not get to spend enough time together. You should be encouraging her to talk to her parents , it could help them realize they needs to learn ASL so they can communicate better with their daughter.

+I would be pretty sure there was something badly wrong with how I raised my kids if they didn't develop independent adult lives.

We certainly get together but aren't together day in
and day out.

I think there is something wrong with a parent who clings to their kids and doesn't encourage them to spread their wings.

I did not say anything about parents not allowing their child to grow. I raise my daughter to very independence but we still talked to one another . I really don't think it's your place to tell a kid to spend less time with their parents.
