I think that all parents needs to accept their childs hearing lost. I know one child from my old school. He is either in Pre-School or Kindergarten who never wants to go home because he has no one to talk to cux his parents doesnt want to learn sign language because they are afaid of become a freak. When he does go home he just sits at home and scream becaue he doesnt get want. Of couse the child shouldnt get everything he wants but he wants hugs or something to drink and he is too young to get it. The reason i know this is because i was riding back with my old deaf and HOH teacher from a Socialization, and me and her were talking and i felt so bad for him. A couple days later i saw him and i was signing to him and his mom freaked out that he was signing out in public. I remember that when i was that old they didnt know i was HOH so i was doing the same thing but instead of signing i was reading lips. Now I sign in class when i dont want someone to read what i say and it doesnt get stolen and someone reads it. And nobody knows what you are talking about. Yeah i dont know alot of sign language but i know enough when i need help. Like when i get a BAD ear infection. cux when that happens i loose my hearing. But everyone needs to learn sign language to help their children

I agree. I had a deafblind friend. Her dad refused to sign. He insisted on her lipreading. Not only that, but he told the college off for signing to her as well.

Parents should accept their children as who they are. It harms the child's psychology if he/she is forced to hide his/her 'disability'. It isn't a shame to be deaf or hoh. It is just a little different way of life.

I love my little buddy. He was born deaf and we are always trying to improve our signing ability to be able to communicate with him. He goes to an ASL curriculum school. He's 11 years old.
