What do you think about people that have more than one wife??
well - I know that mormons believe in polygamy - you see it was believed that if you were not married you would not go to heaven. I am not mormons but I have friends they are and they are getting married to ONLY one person.

In Islam - a muslim man can marry up to 5 wives but the wives can not be younger than the first and if the first wife cant have a boy (a heir) then it is permissable to have more but only with the permission of the first wife. she is highly regarded out of the whole five. All five get money and presents equally that is why you have to be rich to support them. Let me see a famous muslim with five wives would be the owner of Harrah's in England you know Doda's (princess di's boyfriend) father. In China, they used to believe in concumbines - the first wive is reverred and the other wives are more for sex and also to try to get a male heir. Again you need to be rich to be able to do this. In India, they had courtesan, where royalty and rich men would have trained sex mistress.......they would be the best since learned from Kama Sutra. Anyways, in America, there are lots of mistresses and prostitutes (both which are NOT clean and respectable) that married men are with.

Yeah ..258ing aint it eh babyphat.

But mormons banned polygamy due to pressure from the US congress when Utah was in the process of joining the Union.

On Islam and the custom of more than 1 wife: It has been a centuries-old tradition since the days of Mohammed. I had been trying to figure out how the muslim can have 5 wives at once and still be fair to them all. Now with ur post I now got ur meaning on Islamic polygamy cleared up.

Sablescort is right -- the LDS church has since banned polygamy since 18something (i THINK its 1860 or thereabouts) when they wanted to join the union BUTTTTTTTTT there *are* indeed some mormons who still practice polygamy and theyre basically scattered in the mountains to avoid arrest and prosecution (IF that ever happens really cuz its hard to do anyhow)

i myself do NOT like that thought myself even tho i was raised in the LDS faith and currently inactive -- i am aware that other cultures still advocate polygamy altho it to me is sickening

It does...don't you remember that Mormon polygamist that was all over the media a few years ago, Tom Green? (not the MTV guy)
There's also a support group for former wives of poly Mormons...I forget what it's called.

ahh yes yes Deafdyke -- thats the name -- i couldnt remmy the name earlier LOL -- but he got locked up anyway even tho his wives refused to testify against him (if i remmy correctly) and he himself admitted to polygamy when he went for the interview with someone -- Barbara Walters or someone :dunno: who it was now

I agree...it's sickening to know about polygamy...how would the wives feel about being part of that sort of thing and not knowing what they may contract via sex with the husband.

I believe in only ONE person involved in marriage, NOT 5. Ugh.

Saddam is one of famous polygamist. Hope I remmy correctly.

I cannot imagine to see children grew up and look at their father who have wives at same time. Wonder what we feel if we are in their shoes.

If I were in that shoes then I'd sent a bull-fighter to my pa! :o

Although I'm aware about the abduction of Elizabeth Smart, but didn't have much information on the bloke who kidnapped the girl...didn't realise he was a polygamist. :(
I'm just glad that Elizabeth's safely back at home with her family.
