during all of my mental health inpatient hospitalizations (and one hospitalization in the early 90s when i had a bad case of the flu or food poisoning -- doctors weren't sure which one i had) i was allowed to use the phone. at my most recent mental health inpatient hospitalization, i'm sure they would have allowed me internet access if i had asked, but since most of our day was structured around art therapy, relaxation classes and daily appointments with a psychiatrist, there really wasn't any time to surf the net except during the evening hours.
