Hi! Figured I'd introduce myself, I'd like to be a part of these forums. :aw:

I'm 21, was born with progressive hearing loss and am severely/profoundly deaf. I've used a HA in my 'better' ear since I was a kid and have used both visual cues and lip reading to help understand what people are saying. Ironically, I've never gotten to meet/get to know another HoH or Deaf person and that is probably because I grew up in a hearing family and was expected to live in the hearing world.

I've always really wanted to meet people who are HoH and deaf, but have shy'd away from most opportunities because I don't know ASL and that seems to be the communication norm. But with my hearing progressively getting worse, and the impact that has on my life, I am starting to look into learning ASL.

Anyways, thanks for reading my intro! Hopefully I will get to know you guys too.

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. This is sad that you are the only deaf in your family and no other deaf/hard of hearing friends to talk to whether ASL or not. Yes, you need to learn ASL and hopefully that you will go to live ASL classroom. If you are live in United States, then go to the (State) Hearing Society and get information about getting into the ASL classes so that you can learn to sign. Once you get adapt to signing, then I hope you will go into the Deaf events to sign away getting into conversation with them.

Have fun reading and posting all the threads here. See you around here.
