Oh Baby! Mum's Super-Size Special Delivery
Indonesian Woman Gives Birth To Country's Biggest Ever Baby | World News | Sky News

A woman in Indonesia has given birth to the country's biggest ever baby - tipping the scales at a whopping 19.2lbs (8.7kgs).

The 62cms (24.4ins) boy, who has not yet been given a name, was born by caesarean section at a hospital in North Sumatra province.

A gynaecologist who took part in the operation said the 'special delivery' was no easy feat.

"This heavy baby made the surgery really tough, especially the process of taking him out of his mum's womb. His legs were so big," Binsar Sitanggang said.

The boy's huge size was most likely the result of his 41-year-old mother having diabetes, Mr Sitanggang said.

When a diabetic mother's glucose level is high during pregnancy, the baby can receive too much glucose and grow too large, gynaecologists say.

The boy's mother had to be rushed to hospital because of complications with the pregnancy, which had reached nine months.

The baby is the woman's fourth child, but her only child not traditionally delivered by a midwife.

The boy is said to be in a healthy condition despite having to initially be given oxygen to overcome breathing problems.

Mr Sitanggang described the baby as "extraordinary" in almost every way.

"He's got strong appetite, every minute, it's almost non-stop feeding," he said.

"This baby boy is extraordinary, the way he's crying is not like a usual baby. It's really loud."

Indonesia's previous heaviest baby, weighing in at 6.9kgs, was born in 2007 on the outskirts of the capital Jakarta, according to the Indonesian Museum of Records.

that HUGE BABY!!

Whoa! That's a huge baby! I wonder if he will be a giant man?

19.2 Pound Bundle of Joy
The Buzz Log - 19.2 Pound Bundle of Joy - Yahoo! Buzz

Attention moms! Can we have your attention please? To everyone who likes to brag about giving birth to 8, 9, even 10-lb. babies, we advise you keep quiet around Ani from Indonesia. The woman recently delivered a 19.2-lb. bruiser, the heaviest newborn ever recorded in the country.

Ani's epic delivery scored a lot of attention in the Search box. After the "Today" show ran a segment and Al Roker and Matt Lauer made some lighthearted jokes, lookups on "19 pound baby," "indonesian baby," and "heaviest baby ever" all spiked immediately.

And pictures? Oh my, the baby's pictures were also hugely popular. Queries for "19 pound baby photos" jumped from nil into the thousands, and photos within Yahoo! News are drawing big clicks. Not surprisingly, the baby is said to require "near constant feeding."

For those wondering if this baby boy (as of yet unnamed, but we suggest "Hulk") is the heaviest newborn in history, the answer is no. The record belongs to an American infant born in 1879. He weighed 23 pounds, 12 ounces. Sadly, he died a few hours after being born. An ABC station reports that the heaviest baby to survive weighed 22 lbs., 8 ounces. We sure hope the big guy was always extra-nice to his mother.

Below, check out the segment from "Today."

Doubt it. I am one of those premature babies that had to be C-sectiioned early on. My mom had gestational diabetes and I was already 6lbs at around 26 weeks or so; most premies are about 2 pounds at that age. Doctors had to intervene because I was too hazardous for her health.

Turned out to be a 5'6", 140 pounds guy.

I wonder if her back hurted while carrying the baby. My son was almost 9 lbs when he was born and boy, my back was killing me during those last few weeks of my pregnancy!

:eek3: I would hope not. I've never had children so I'll just take your word for it.

With my daughter, my back didnt hurt at all but with my son it did. I asked my dr if it was due to his size and he had said it could be due to several factors..my age, wieght, height, how I carried the baby and etc. However, I can imagine that a 19 lb baby would definitely put a strain on the woman's back. It all depends on her body frame. If she is a tiny and delicate woman, then most definitely!

Speaking of size and weight. I wonder how big was the Momma.. What is her body frame?? I also wonder how much weight did she gain herself!!

Wow....what a Whopper!...My sis, who is 5 foot and weights under 100 lbs., had a boy weighing 11 lbs. Wasn't a pleasant pregnancy....All my babies were 6-7 lbs., 19 inches....I can't imagine having a baby 24 inches long.....

same my cousin Bud born in Feb.2001 and weight 11lbs in c-section and also his big sister Abby who also born by c-section on Sept.1997 she weight 10lbs both is huge!! Because of their dad is big that why....

That baby is easily the size of a two year old.

I hope this woman is able to get some sort of special services to help her care for her son.

If this happened here in the states I am sure the woman would have delievered sooner when the child was closer to 10 lbs. IF the child was developed enough to survive outside the womb.
