Same thing can happen to Android phone, reason why it so easy to hack into phone because the charger is charging the phone in the same jack which alos have the data port and used for transferring data.
So anyone can built a charger small enough to contain a chip to exploit the data port and transfer the trojans or hacks into the phone when it plugged into that charger.
That why you would want to avoid of third party charger that only cost 1 dollar on amazon or ebay. It can contain that chip to access the data in that same jack use for charging your phone.
Older phone did not have that issue because it had it own separate charging jack instead of using mini usb to charge the phone.
You may notice in newer Android OS that when you use your computer usb and plug an Android phone into it, it will ask you if you want to transfer data or charge your phone.
If you select to charge your phone then it disable the data port prevent any unauthorized transferring of your data while phone being charged.
This is easily bypassed now that why that feature isn't in newer Android OS and also people wanted to use data port while their phone is being charged by their laptop usb etc.
So basically to protect yourself, stay away from third party chargers unless you know for sure it safe to use and is a plain charger which contains no exploit chip inside of it.
