A couple thoughts.

Suppose the Allies had announced the date of D-Day in advance during WWII? :hmm:

Escape clause:

"...if security conditions in Iraq deteriorate in the coming months the president 'retains the flexibility' to slow down or reverse troop withdrawals...."

So, we'll have to wait and see what really happens.

I think his plan is most reasonable in order to protect America's interests and provide regional security.

I agree.. Its not like he is planning to bring everyone out over the next couple of months. He is giving an appropriate amount of time I believe. There is a huge difference between D-day and what has been happening in Iraq. It is time for Iraq to be its own country again.

Yes, maybe today but who knows about tomorrow?

This is also true, but the cool thing about being President is while he did set a time, it can be changed if need be. At the very least he is setting a goal.

Now, Obama got my point about took over 1 year to fully withdrawal of war.

It could be up to Sept 2011.

Then again--he may end combat missions in Iraq but only end up transferring them to Afghanistan....:hmm:

Yup, that theatre has been another ongoing specter. Can get uglier anytime, I suppose...

Fat chance in hell of that happening I'd say. We'll have a presence over there past that deadline for sure.

It's ironic about some people believe that Obama will magically to withdraw all US troopers from Iraq in short time.

I have friends who insist that the reason we cannot bring all the troops home is because our casualties are a lot higher than our goverment admit. I dunno. I think it strange, though, that we never hear of MIA's. We will see I suppose.

when we leave Iraq, civil war will begin. Then Iraq will be partitioned like the 1947 Israel-Palestine into Sunni, Shiite and Kurds lands.

I don't care what Obama says, we'll *always* be in Iraq. I just don't see him withdrawing our troops 100% at any time.

Honestly? We will NEVER know.

Obama is NOT making any promises in that one. He just annouced a PLAN to pull the troops out of Iraq by 2010 doesnt mean it will go according to plan unless nothing else comes up. If it went over a deadline, then they must've had a reason for that so...

I do hope we will pull the troops out of Iraq soon as possible. Obama DID say we will most likely focus on Afghanistan instead where it would all make sense then. I just hope it would be a quicker way to end all this shit and move on.

Of course...I wouldnt be surprised if this is going to be a pretty long one.

Agreed. It is well past time for Iraq to become their own country once again.

Yes, it's time for Iraqis to show that they can make Iraq a peaceful country. Let Iraqis make it a success.

I'm glad that Obama did right thing...
