OAD Technology for Inner Ear Therapeutics

Please stop flooding the forum with press release after press release. If you don't have anything scientific to back this stuff up, members of this forum are perfectly capable of searching health news on their own.

Jillo..... it goes into their eyes and out of their ears... they don't care, I have good mind to complain to the mods... anyone with me???

With all due respect, this forum has been flooded with other threads of a different nature that everyone's sick and tired of, so this is no exception. Read what you want to read, and ignore the rest. One of the mods has already addressed this in another thread, pretty much to the effect of what I just said. As for this particular subject, there are some of us, including myself, who are indeed interested in advancing technologies.

Hear, hear! (No pun intended!)

I'm with you! It's getting aggravating to see these. This is just my opinion and I don't want to offend anyone by saying this, but lets put stem cells to a better use than trying to cure deafness.

I'm sorry if that offended people (not my intention, really!), but it drives me bonkers to see anything touted as a "cure" to fix something that isn't broken to begin!

Couldn't agree with you more on the interest, AlleyCat. But press releases don't do much to advance our knowledge.

disagree with your position. Press releases about the latest developments, recent progress, the latest technology, we will indicate where to progress. For example if you draw a model of cochlear implant would not be willing to share the news, the press release?

AMEN!!!!! Hearing loss is NOT THAT big of a deal.
There are FAR more better things to research for trying to find a cure.

Yeah. I didn't mean to offend anyone by what I said, but hearing loss can be adapted to. I think stem cell research is awesome, but it shouldn't be forced on people as a cure for something that isn't really seen as that big of a hinderance to them.

You are more than welcome to disagree with me, but the fact of the matter is that press releases are written by those that have an agenda and a profit to make. They are more often than not, extremely misleading and overly optimisitic when compared to the actual scientific evidence.

I agree. There are terminal illnesses that should be addressed first. And, BTW, we can thank Obama for opening the door to research continuing after Bush closed it.

Press releases have no scientific merits. They are released by biotech companies to drive the hypes in order to scare competitors. So basically all they are is laying claim to field and tell other companies: "stop your research now! We are doing this, and we might be patenting it soon, so your research will be useless if you choose to pursue it!"

If you want some real information on stem cell technology, please use a scientific database. JSTOR is a good place to start. Anyone who have access to a computer at a post-secondary institute can gain access to a myriad of databases to look up papers and journal articles.

I understand that the various press reports or information which is conducive to more competition, more products and technologies precisely because there is more competition. If there is no competition the product will last a long time, for example hearing aids in sealing technology, while if there are new stories foster new research and developments.
For example, in the world of computers and the internet, you do not believe that competition will speed google vs windows new products to market, gain from the user, the progress will move ... Windows progresses, yes, but Google is pushing further progress.
For as I think the world of technology for the deaf. There will be better products, precisely because there is more competition, and I see you have good media pressure. A part is interesting to debate (its falsity or truth) the various scientific reports, newspaper reports, etc..
