Nucleus 5 upgrade for an older model implant is available?

My daughter was implanted with 2 Nucleus Freedoms a year apart and was recently upgraded to Nucleus 5 processors and a new mapping approach.

At the moment it's compatible with freedoms and I think it's end of this year/early next year that the older generations would be compatible with N5. I am sure that USA will be later since they need to go through FDA first.

I was checking the Nucleus 5 out... it looks pretty awesome.

Tyler goes for a CI evaluation next Friday.

If you were implanted somewhere before 2003, it is not available for in N5 upgrade. You probably have to wait til a new processor come out because that what cochlear companies do. They make you wait in line.

well, I was implanted in 1993, so I am wondering how much longer we have to wait for N5 upgrade? I've been waiting forever to upgrade from 3G ESPIRT to N5!!!!

Just two days ago Advanced Bionics made the Harmony Sound Processor available for the older C1 Recipients that was relased in Nov. 2007 I beleive. I do not think it will take Cochlear that long. Since there is some software changes that have to been done for the older implants the bottleneck is with the FDA

Ugh, then the FDA should just hurry up!

Thank you so much guys :) I was implanted in 2001. I got upgraded into Freedom from the last year. Thanks again

Krazykatkitty, but you don't have freedom internal implant, is it N22? This needs to be compatible first and approved by FDA, In UK, N5 had been out over a year and the upgrades for older generations is JUST out here in UK, I don't know how long it's going to be for USA.

Ah, sorry I thought you were from US, Ok, I am not sure about NZ though, it would depend on their budget since N5 is more expensive than Freedoms... Could be while. I will ask my friend in NZ about it.

That's okay. I should put more details on above where I come from. :)
Yeah, it might be. I will talk with my audiologist about it when I see him next.

I was implanted with the N24 in 2002. I have the Freedom upgrade and am now waiting for the N5. It's been 15 months, so I anticipate the release for Canada will be soon - sure hope so...
