Not true. Students write their names on them for a reason. If you're studying in a college setting, some of the required books can cost over $100 - enough for a student to steal a fellow student's book if they don't want to pay for their own.

I had a book stolen in college. The book itself really wasn't an issue, but the notes were valuable.
