Americans don't trust Bush: poll

AFP - A new poll due out on Friday shows 56 per cent of Americans mistrust President George W Bush's handling of the US economy.

And 59 per cent of those surveyed in the CBS News/New York Times poll believe the country's economy is worse off since Bush took office.

The poll was published on the CBS website, ahead of the release of the latest US unemployment figures. Analysts believe unemployment will further increase.

In August, US government figures showed an unemployment rate of 6.1 per cent.

On the international front, half of those polled said they said they had no confidence in Bush's ability to resolve international crises.

And 55 per cent said relations with US allies worsened compared to what they were in January 2001.

Fifty-nine per cent of the questioned said they did not believe Bush had a clear plan for rebuilding Iraq, and about two-thirds disagreed with Bush's request to spend $US87 billion ($A127.29 billion) on military and reconstruction operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Despite the downturn in the polls, 63 per cent nevertheless believe that Bush has strong leadership qualities, with 35 per cent believing he does not.

The telephone survey of 981 adults was carried out between September 28 and October 1. The margin of error is plus or minus three percentage points.

I agree with you -- I did believe that the election was fixed -- as I saw that Gore had quite a chance in winning the election until Florida faced a 'dead end' by a technical glitch and had to count by hand. Of course...the coinience was...Jeb Bush was the governor of Fla and his brother got the shoo in for the White House -- I believe that Jeb somehow rigged it to point the winner to his brother.
