The North Carolina Supreme Court has upheld a state law prohibiting registered sex offenders from using social networking sites such as Facebook.

The state's highest court issued an opinion Friday that reversed a lower court ruling that found the law unconstitutional.

The 2008 law was challenged by registered sex offender Lester Gerard Packingham, who was convicted of an additional offense after Durham police found his Facebook page.

His attorney had argued the law was too broad and could prohibit routine Internet activity, such as a Google search.

Packingham was convicted in 2002 of taking indecent liberties with a child. For his 2012 conviction related to the Facebook page, he received a suspended sentence and probation.

A lawyer for Packingham didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.

"Packingham was convicted in 2002 of taking indecent liberties with a child."

That's not peeing in public.

It is interesting that those that are hit with being sex offenders for crimes that do not truly fit as a sex crime are not heard about in cases like this... They have to fight their bounds as well as pedos and rapist...

Is peeing in public a sex crime?
Depends on the state.

North Carolina isn't one of them.

The guy in this story wasn't charged with public urination.

If you're going down that road (again) you can start a new thread.

Exposing ur sex organs...if you gotta pee and no bathrooms around, then find a secluded spot....and especially no Kids or minors around....Even then, I would not be interested in seeing anybody peeing in my bushes or the side of my house....I'd fill their arse full of buckshot!

Anyone enter your property is trespassing, that's crime.

Why they wanna to ban sex offenders but not the killers?? Smh

Killers got range from life imprisonment to death penalty - that applies to 1st and 2nd degree murder.

First thought... How many nude bathtub pics to parents post or simi nude pics of kids... While normal people see this a a summer day for the child... Pedo sees more...

If one has to go and there is no restroom nearby, there will be peeing in public. Holding it all in is not healthy.

As for murders, victims age range is from 0 to 115 years old, so it's impossible with fb, on other hand pedo victim age ranges from 0 to 17.999 yrs old, and for most kids, they are on FB, and kids often are at most vulnerable and often they would sneak into FB without parents knowing, I know it too well cause I busted my kids doing that. So, I hail that decision from supreme court. In other words, Sex crimes though Internet is much worse than murder, speaking of frequency.

For pedo only... don't ever think about my kids, my friends kids, and so on, if you decided to do so, and I caught you, trust me you will cry all the way as I will do anything to detach your gentil from your body! I dont think jail is enough for you, plenty of free sex down there for u. So, Stay out of FB and kids!

Agreed, I have medical condition and holding it all put me in horrible pain.

I was forced to exit I-270 in Maryland - that's mix of rural and town so I found extremely hard to find a restroom until I found Subway.

The guy that extricated to states from uk I forgot his name but he got hook for hand.he most vile evil creature,he in newyork prison.Apparently he got wifi connection and uses it,God forbid what he saying on it

That's right. The legal site I checked said that if a man can't hold it, then pee in your pants (gross but not illegal). It's the exposure that's illegal.
