Except me it seems. Not counting people over the age of 60, I can remember only 2 people around my age who had hearing aids. I know they're expensive and a pain to wear all day, but come on. Talk about feeling like the only one who wears these things. People see them and think I have some slick iPod headphones or something. Would love to hear from others such as my "hearing impaired" self about how things are going and have been going. I've had just about every hearing aid there is. Lost about half my hearing because I was a sick baby. It's past the point of feeling lonely. I'm at the point of amazement that I don't bump into anyone else with a piece of hardware in their ears.

I love wearing hearing aids. If i didn't wear them, i wouldn't know my sisters talking about me behind my back  Anyways, Welcome to AD.

Welcome to alldeaf!!
I know what you mean. Some of the people I work with thought my ha was a bluetooth device, especially when I have my dai cable hooked up to my BB for music. There are 3 people in my store (over 400 employees) that wear ha's, including me, and the other two are, as you say, over 60 and hear better than I do. (There is another person that is hoh, but can't afford a ha so he depends more on lipreading.). They both work on the night shift, so that leaves me as the only one during the day with a ha.
Since I only wear one ha, most people assume that I have normal hearing in the other ear, but that is not the case. For practical purposes, I am deaf in that ear as I can't comprehend speech at all. The other ear is catching up slowly. I have no problem wearing mine..it is a visible warning to others that I have a hearing problem and I am just waiting for my "covers" to make it even more visible.

Welcome to AD> I have 2 hearing aids forever. I am sure many people here will tell you the same.

Be alone no more.:D

Welcome to AD and I wear two HAs ever since I was 7 years old.

I wear a hearing aid.

Not all deaf people wear hearing aids. Some of them can't wear hearing aids because it doesn't work for them.

I have friends who don't wear hearing aids. :)

Welcome. I used to wear my hearing aid all the time till recruiment got so bad that I no longer could wear my HA then I got my left ear implanted. I wear my cochlear implant most of the time now.

As Vamp says, not all deaf wear HAs simply because they don't work for them..

Anyway, you're in plenty of good company here.

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. I was born deaf. I wear one hearing aid ever since I was 8 1/2 years old and am also totally deaf on the other ear. I am 62 going to be 63 in two months in November. You are not the only one. I hope you enjoy reading and posting all the threads here. Have fun with us. See you around.

I remember feeling like I was the ONLY kid in the entire world who was hoh!
I'm surprised you haven't run into someone in such a big city as LA!
There are tons of hoh folks out there.....just gotta find them first!!!!!!!

i wear them and love it, doesnt mean that i am hearing. I am still proudly to be DEAF or HOH. As long i have that pride-
