No common sense in Ohio - another life ruined

It's very unfortunate that a knew insane people committed a mass murder in schools and now anyone that carry a knife could be crazy' too. I think the cops and schools are not sure where to draw the line on this so anyone that has any kind of weapon on their person or in their car is a risk to everyone in school. But I feel a kid life should not be destroyed because of what some psycho did in Newtown Ct. A lot of kids brought pocketknife to school , boy scouts always had a pocketknife with them. The boy rights where violated when he wanted a lawyer and did not get one.

it is unfortunate situation,i would thought someone who wants do public service job should be encouraged but where do you draw the line with knives nothing wrong with small pen knife most boys in my day had one but 4'inch blade not sure...seems unfair to me if his future is destroyed because of some psyco's...just where has common sense gone

...I hope this kid and his lawyer/parents fight tooth and nail to get these charges dropped or reduced.....Can only imagine if this were my son that it happened to!....

I wouldn't live in Ohio even if somebody paid me to....

Your state been in the news a lot and not for good reasons.

Wow. I at first thought this was a satirical article but needless to say this, it's asinine.

He said he needed to have a stun gun for self defense?

And he needed it on the school grounds where it was clearly prohibited.

So basically, we should just obey whatever laws make sense to us?

the problem is that he had one too many things that could be considered as a weapon on school grounds. You have to think.... its harmless to you, but if someone views it as a threat, you are screwed common sense or not.

Same goes for the parents who let their kids drive their cars to school. If the parent is a contractor and leaves his tools in the vehicle and it gets searched- its game over for your kid. OH! a hammer! OH! a crowbar! oh! a screwdriver! OH! cordless saw! they all are weapons! it can be used to maim, kill, hurt, etc.

you are right, common sense is out of the window. It doesnt matter if you are diligent on making sure the kids car is empty before going to school. A school administrators will find something just to spite someone if they feel threatened which is stupid.

If a kid had all those things in his and drove to school when I was going no one would had thought anything of it. A classmate of my called the Jr. high
school principal and told him there was a bomb in the school and the principal said " Oh , is that right Tom"' Tom is not the kid name . Nothing was done to see if there really was a bomb in the school.
Kids bring house keys to school every day , I am surprises thy do not have to check their keys before going to classes. A key could be used a weapon and so can a ballpoint pen or pencil . A kid used a pencil as weapon already if a person really want to harm someone they'll find something to use. The schools needs to pay more attention to any student that show signs of being troubled. People can't just say "Boys will be boys" anymore
if they're acting out.

I think the point is, the punishment should fit the crime.

Unfortunately , too many people with a sadistic streak are attracted to law enforcement , which is the other thing TCS worries about, but here is this kid who is already planning self defense by stun gun?

When law officers use this device we consider it cruel, and it can kill people.

Yeah if the boy had a criminal record as long as arm and been causing trouble in school all the time I could see a cause of being alarmed. And he pass his psych evaluation that showed he not suicidal or homicidal .
It's insane to destroy the kid's life . Crap there just was a case where a rich boy killed some people while driving and that did was found 'Not Guilty' because he parents told him he was better than anyone else. Now we have a case of kid willing to put his life in danger by wanting to be a policeman have it taken away him from made mistake a mad mistake. Drunk driver get second, third and fourth chances before losing their driving licenses for good. The punishment does not fit the crime in this case.
