No book thread? What are you reading!

I didn't see any thread to talk about books so I thought I'd make one!

Say what book you're reading now and recommend a book to be read by others (describe it without spoiling it, too).

I'm reading The Blind Watchmaker. This book is about Evolution by Natural Selection. It's ... interesting so far! I've read 2 other Dawkins books (The Selfish Gene and The God Delusion) and this one is making some wild claims. Still good reading.

I recommend Beowulf: A New Translation. It's a translation by the Irish poet Seamus Heaney of the classic epic poem Beowulf. I thought the translation was very good!

How about you ?
 
Alex, have you read these books where has been featured in some hollywood movies, like the Client and A time to kill?

In behalf of myself -- I haven't read any books in a while, due to busy schedule, but the last time I read was the Tomorrow Series by John Marsden

In the seriesmy favourite book is below:

The only ones I saw was "The Client" and "The Chamber", both good movies.
 
It is a shame I used to read all the time... Seems I have drifted away from reading a good novel.

If you consider reading pre-school books to children everyday as reading. then I'm good to go.
 
The movie 'A time to kill' is also a good film too, I recommend you to watch it or read the novel, you prefer either. The client is also good, the actor passed away earlier this year, unfortunately.

Although, these books by John Grisham are good - what about the Firm?

Back in the days when I *actually read books* the movies would be so disappointing... Nothing like the book... The book allows you to visualize the images, movies just place them there.

Yeah, I know. The books contains everything -- but the companies that priduce movies, doesn't want to contain everything where it might "cost" their money to produce a long one. that might be another reason behind this.

You know that The Harry Potter Series? The movies doesn't come alike by these books, unfortunately.

I wouldn't know because my first John Grisham book was The Client, and from that point on I read almost all his newer books. The Firm came out before The Client, if I'm not mistaken.

Those sound like good books. I wouldn't mind reading some brief reviews by ADers on some of them.

I just finished Sue Grafton's lastest in her alphabet mystery series, T is for Trespass. This one was much better than the last few.

I'm in the middle of Duma Key, Steven King's lastests, and it's a thriller. When this one gets made into a movie, I hope they don't wreck it like they sometimes do to King's novels.

I liked most of Robert Parker's Spenser series (and Spenser for Hire on TV), but I really liked the movie with Tom Seleck, Stone Cold, from Parker's detective series featuring Jesse Stone, so I got Parker's latest Jesse Stone novel last night. It's Stranger in Paradise. I'll let you know how it goes.
 
I just finished Burnt offerings by Laurell K. Hamilton this morning and started on book number 8 in the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series which the name of is Blue Moon. The one I just read was Anita getting a formal roasting from the elders of the vampires and learning she had more power in her than she thought due to her part in a triumvirate. very good and very sexy but not to much on the sex part so it was still in good taste. I love vampire books and things of that nature so I highly recommend anything by Laurell K. Hamilton or especially by Anne Rice. Anne Rice has had two books go to movie, 1 was Interview With The Vampire with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt ,and the other one was Queen of the Damned with Stuart Townsend and Ayliah (R.I.P.). Laurell's books are in Marvel comics now with hints that it is going to go to movie soon. ooohhhh I hope so! but like was mentioned earlier in the thread I would probably get up and leave the theatre due to it pissing me off that they left something out or the character and actor don't match by looks.:pissed:oh yeah and my hubby loves Stephen King books, Terry Pratchett, and Douglas Adams. but what does he know, he's only a British bloke!
 
Hmm... the last book I ever read was "Jurassic Park" by Michael Crichton. That was in 1994. ;)

I mostly agree. With The Lord of the Rings it was different. In many ways the film helped clarify what I was imagining. The books were fantastic but the films were too; they didn't disappoint.

I am sad though because I don't get much time to read. I used to read on my way to/from work but I walk to work now! It's 15 minutes and I need to keep my eyes on the ground or I'll tip over. :( If I was smart I'd take my HOUR at lunch and READ...but instead I work through it.
 
Currently reading An Inconvenient Truth by Glenn Beck.
 
I'm currently reading books by Cassie Edwards, Indian Romance but right now the book I'm reading that's written by her is Savage Hero.

I can't help it that I like Indian Romance...but I also love Time Travel Romance.
