NH had a Deaf School?!?!?!

Wow... I did not know this before, but NH had a Deaf School from 1955-1979! I thought that NH had never had a Deaf School of its own, and sent it's students to either Austine or American School for the Deaf

I know Nevada never had a residental state Deaf School, although it has the day school in Las Vegas now In the link they mention another state that didn't have a deaf school....which one was that? (and it's sad that Wyoming, Idaho and SDSD have joined the ranks of states without Deaf Schools)

That's right...and that's good that's available (if residental education is needed) I also thought that if a res placement was needed for Nevada, they got sent to California.
What I think should happen if a Deaf or Blind School placement is needed, and there's not a Deaf or Blind School in that state, is that they should be able to be sent to a specialized school in a bordering state. For middle and high school it's a bit easier since we do have MSSD.
 
Yea that right. Now it is only for the handicapped school not for the deaf anymore. My deaf cousin went to that school and left there in 1973 to join my school which is Boston School for the Deaf in Randolph, Ma. I been there a few years ago and it is really big and nice. Too bad no more deaf school but I believe there is a smaller deaf school in Concord, NH. Just started out a few years back.

Not exactly a deaf school......more like a dhh formal program. Actually it started out and then kinda fizzled out. There IS a strong deaf program in Manchester
It is kind of too bad that there's not a formal program at CM any more. ...NH is wicked rural...and CM would be an awesome homebase, especially since it seems to be for kids who run along the disabilty spectrum, from LD to severe issues. Most programs like CM tend to be for profoundly handicapped kids.

True, very true. Especially for middle and high school! At least NH is small, and can use Austine and Govenor Baxter as placements if needed.
Also, I think a lot of the dhh population may be centered in the cities like Concord, Nausha etc.....but still, NH is SUPER rural and not a lot of sped resources are available

Yeah, that's right that the BSD had closed down June 1994..
