Hi, everyone! I'm a newbie. I'm 45, hard of hearing, and wear bilateral HA's, which I've had for about 2 years. I have hereditary hearing loss and it's most likely progressive. I'm adjusting well, but I'm still afraid of the progressive part.

I'm feeling kind of isolated so I'm joining here, as well as a local group. My hubby is very supportive, but I need to talk to others who are going or have gone through the same experience.

My passions are chocolate, animals (2 dogs, 1 cat), Jane Austen and the mountains. I spend most of my spare time hanging out with my kids.

Good to be here!

Welcome to AD SallyLou!

I am sure you will feel better with new friends here who can relate. My mother is in her mid-50s and struggling with her hearing quickly declining as well. It's not an easy transition but you were here to help support you as well. :)

Welcome fellow Houstonian!! Actually past Houstonian but family still there.

 sallylou,

I love animals too and am a dog trainer. Also love chocolate <dark>. New hoh-
welcome-

dogmom, I could use your help with my border collie mix. She's a wonderful dog but too smart for her own good sometimes. I also have a pug/bull terrier mix who is a sweetie (very obedient). One feline--a male orange tabby who is an indoor cat. And a gerbil called (appropriately enough) "gerbil."

It's already too hot down here! 96-97 F all week with no rain. I'm going to a cub scout event outside tomorrow and I hope that we can stand it! Sweaty HAs are no fun!

Would that Scout event be the Rain Gutter Regatta? Loads of fun for the kids.

No, but that sounds like loads of fun! There's a small lake in my community. Maybe we could create and launch some boats just for fun. :ty: for the idea!

It's the bike rodeo this month. We already had cake bake, pine wood derby and camping trips this year. I even peed behind a tree with a flash light in the middle of the night. That was a big deal for me because I usually prefer a hotel with room service. :laugh2:

Another Texan

Hello Sally and welcome to AD. I'm in San Antonio and enjoying the heatwave. :laugh2:

Here's a link for you. They used to be called Self-help for the Hard of Hearing.
Hearing Loss Association of America

There's an interpreter training program in Houston at North Harris College. Here's some info. They may have events or resources available to the general public. Good Luck.
