I am from Germany originally now living in New York City. I am hard of hearing and come to US for college. I did get my BA but could find a job and had to go back to school for Master to keep my visa which is student visa. Last year I got my MBA and finally found a job in IT. Unfortunately i am still struggle with immigration, waiting for my new long term working paper.
I did make some deaf friends in NYC but still have difficulty in learning ASL because i don't spend much time with deaf instead of with hearing people. Also I grew up with hearing people only and didn't have change to learn ASL until few year ago.
i am surprise that deaf here in US get more support than in Germany.
