Hi! My name is Jade.
I am 25 years old from Orange County, CA.
I decided to start learning ASL because my hearing has become less and less over the years .. Ever since I was a child, I have been hard of hearing. I can hear louder things, but when people talk, it is muffled and sounds like they are underwater, so I have always caught myself reading lips quite a bit. When watching TV or movies, I usually have the captions on as well. I really started paying attention to this over the past few years, and finally decided to learn ASL.
I am learning ASL with my 11 year old daughter, and we are doing pretty good, if I might say so myself
I am hoping to learn more about the community and culture through this site. ​

I just joined also. My remaining low-tone hearing has a fishbowl sound also. I have a terrible time reading lips if the speakers have an accent. With relatives it's easier.
