copy cat sniper kills three in W VA.

remind me of the sniper shooting from last yr why must we be reminded so close to the 1 yr anniversary! they are CRAZY! :ugh:

CEDAR GROVE, W.Va. (Aug. 17) - Authorities have expressed concern that three recent killings resemble last year's sniper shootings, which panicked the Washington area in October.

Police have confirmed that the three Charleston-area shootings could be the work of a single sniper. They have also acknowledged that the bullets in all three attacks were fired from the same caliber and class of weapon, all from more than 30 yards away. They have not linked the three to the same weapon.

The victims lived about 10 miles apart, but apparently did not know each other. All three killings were after dark.

When the sniper preyed on the Washington suburbs last year, Jeanie Patton feared she could be next, though she lived hundreds of miles away.

''She said, 'Mom, I'm almost afraid to go out. Something like that could happen here in West Virginia,''' her mother, Joyce Patton, recalled.

Jeanie Patton, 31, was shot in the head Thursday while pumping gasoline at a Speedway convenience store about five miles from her home.

Less than two hours later, 26-year-old Okey Meadows Jr. was shot in the neck at a Go-Mart. And four days earlier, Gary Carrier Jr., 34, was shot in the head while using a pay phone outside another Go-Mart in Charleston.

Meadows, the divorced father of a 3-year-old, was getting ready for a college admissions test so he could take classes at West Virginia State College.

''He was trying to show his son that he could do anything if he put his mind to it,'' said Robert Williams, a friend.

Meadows, who lived in Campbells Creek, could bench 225 pounds and sometimes would hold his mother above his head after hugging and kissing her hello.

''He'd say that was how he showed her he loved her,'' said his aunt, Donna Tinsley.

Carrier also was a divorced father. He left behind three sons and one daughter, ages 10 to 25.

Carrier, a mechanic who lived in South Charleston, was a NASCAR fan and owned a selection of Dale Earnhardt T-shirts. He was a jokester, whose friends would hang out at Charleston Tire, where he worked until recently.

''One morning I came in here, they had sat my desk up on four-inch rims and dropped my chair down to the floor,'' said Lisa Bishop, the garage's secretary. ''We never had a bad day when he was around.''

Carrier's brother, Greg, said he could not come up with a motive in the death.

''No matter how much I think about it, it just doesn't make sense,'' he said. ''I know the police are trying hard, but so far no one can figure it out.''

Patton, who lived in Campbells Creek, was a substitute cook and custodian for Kanawha County schools.

''Jeanie never hurt a person in her life,'' Joyce Patton said.

Patton's 14-year-old son was struggling with the news of his mother's death, said her father, Larry Patton.

''He took it pretty hard,'' Larry Patton said. ''But the hardest part is still to come.''

‘100 suspects’ identified in W.Va.

Acting in the belief that a single sniper is responsible for three slayings in the area, the Church of God in Shrewsbury, W.Va., displayed a message on Sunday calling for surrender.

Aug. 18 -- Investigators have identified 100 suspects in three killings that have raised fears that a serial killer is stalking residents of Campbells Creek, a West Virginia mountain valley. NBC’s Joe Johns has details.
Jeez... now we have another sniper in our hands! Probably a copycat serial sniper!

It's terrible for this to be happening! :thumbd: I just hope that the sniper'll be caught ASAP and curb any further dispair and fear that is going around. That is yet another evidence that the world's going to the dogs.

I just don't think snipers should be selled in gun shops or any other stores like that...if they want to use it for hunting then they should use a different rifle with NO snipe on it...I think snipers are proably one of the most deadiest weapons today because you never know where the shot came from and who shot the person...whoever invented that kind of weapon should've made second thoughts about it...but sheesh...snipers should be used by goverment only...you know for cops and swat teamd and stuff like that but not for any customers in a gun shop!

Ummmm, Steel....hate to tell ya this but sniper in this context is a person! :laugh2:

yeah and sometimes it can be named for a weapon because of the scope. sure, some ppl call it a sniper rifle but sometimes they just say "sniper" for short but yeah it can be for a person too...

I think that the law with guns should be left alone. My favorite quote for guns is...

"Guns don't kill people. People do."

If we ban guns, that's not gonna stop a person from killing another person... simply use a knife. Ban knives? No problem, use a baseball bat. No baseball bat? No problem, use a golf club. It never ends cuz there will always be ways to kill another.

Actually, I think the law does need to be improved.

"Guns don't kill people. People do."

True.

Yes, that's true. But if you think about it...

Which weapon's the easiest to kill somebody with without having to struggle with the victims?

Of course, it's the gun.

With a knife, baseball bat, golf club and more...

People can run away, dodge, struggle with you, and more. I'm not saying that we should ban guns. But the law itself need to be changed because it's not good enough.

well, the only problem is that they can't ban guns.. because it's writen in constrution (the bill of rights) normally they can't accually change from "yes" to "no" on the bill of rights which is the top ten written constrution.
here in minnesota they allow people carry hand guns anywhere they go unless the buliding bans guns in the area.

Yes, guns are quicker but it also depends on how it's used. If you know what you're doing, you can kill a person with one swing of a baseball bat. If done in a specific way, a person can bleed horribly and be very gruesome if shot the right way. It really depends on the technique, not the weapon.
