Well, observing my aging parents struggling to get up and down the stairs outside ( porch has handrails, but the small walk and 2 steps down to sidewalk doesnt ) so I started measuring today and designing to install metal handrails on each side so they have something to hold onto to help them with their balance and stability, also make it safer during the winter months as well.
Going to need a rotary hammer, jack hammer, concrete and various Galvanized pipes and fittings to complete. Shouldnt take more than a few hours and hopefully get another warm day or 2 to do the work.

have to get some before/after pictures

Takes me a few hours just to get started on a project. Maybe you could stop by my place next time you're feeling antsy to fix stuff :hmm:

Just might? I plan to get a small trailer to haul my rider and possibly do some small lawn cuttings this year? Id like to find some nice big properties to cut where I do one or 2 and spend the day just riding the rider and smelling the fresh cut grass....lol

Damn! Now I will have to wait my turn ! :giggle:

I need some way to safely get my dog outside when the whole yard is like an ice skate rink which it's right now ! Sono , your parents are so lucky to have you for a son!

I was just freezing my butt off with the snowblower on the front of my tractor longing for the grass to come back. Mowing the lawn is like my zen meditation. Snow blowing is just cold!

My father in law ordered one of the bolt together trailers online for a pretty good price. I thought it looked pretty rugged but time will tell I guess.

if its anything like what Harbour Freight sells, its pretty much light duty, I can get a decent one ( all welded ) for anywhere from $500 and up depending on size, starting with a 4x6 at that price, has short sides and a small gate, enough to get the rider on.

 I tried something like that , I put a long leash on my dog I think it a 20 ft leash I had from my last dog and stood on the deck and tried to get Marty to go down steps by himself and pee , he said no way ! I think the coyote or fox could be around looking for rabbits or a small dog . :(

Put your pup in a harness, and just lower him down, wont hurt him ( not like hanging from a collar) let em do his business and pull em up. If you see a fox or coyote, Yank !

I got the 5x8 trailer so I could haul plywood and my new mower has a 54" deck so I'm glad I did. I did notice some 8' trailers are not 8' on the inside but mine just fits a sheet of plywood or sheetrock.

I've got a brand-new unfinished basement to be done if you wanna come over.

LOL! That won't work b/c there are brushes around my deck , but this remind of the movie 'Rear Window' a woman lower her small dog down in a basket ties to rope from her deck to do it business.

Goodness me :)
You must have got a spring up your butt :) that is making you keeping busy all the time. won't let you sit for longer than 5 minutes lololol

Seriously, what a great son you are. how nice of you to notice your parents struggling and going out your way to help them. two fat thumbs up for you!

I was thinking, seeying how my knees bother me too. when I am tired, or carry heavy grocies, it's hard to go up or down.
how about maybe further the project, and cover half of the steps (if there is enough width, that is)
with something resembling a gangway -

so they won't slip, and won't have to bend their knees at all?
just an idea..

Fuzzy
