New Jersey Passed Seatbelt Law for Pets!

Interesting. how do you restrain a cat? Cats throw a fit during the ride. I had to have my cat with me in a passenger position to calm her down. She threw a fit in her kennel, and tried to chew on the metal door. She was literally hyperventilating. She was drooling all over. Are there any exceptions under the law? Is it possible to show a vet's note to a cop that my cat cannot be in a kennel for emotional problems?

My Sable rides on the front passenger floor, I wonder if working dogs are except?

I don't drive, but if I did I think I would feel better with my dog in a seat belt safety harness. But I think it should be up to the owner. I love animals very much and I am becoming a veterinarian because I want to use my life to care for them, but this new law sounds to me like a way for the state to make more money. They want to give $1000 tickets to as many people as possible. They don't care about the animals.

That is all fines do is give the state income, you are right they do not care about the animals, children, lives saved, oil spilled all they care about is the fine. When they fine a person all that happens (if they can pay it) that person becomes more angry with the system and gee the state people wonder why.

It is not just a matter of if they care about animals. Anything, living or an object, that is not restrained becomes a danger to anyone in the vehicle in the event of a crash. That person, animal, or object that is unrestrained keeps moving when the vehicle stops suddenly because of the crash and can hit the people and injure them.

I was thinking that too about working dogs. I know my hearing dog would had hate to had wore a seat belt. Finlay likes to watch where I was going . I swear if he could had talk Finlay would let me known if I was going the wrong way! He would sit with his head resting on back of my seat and when he saw I was going the right way he would go lay down. He was a back seat driver!

Yeah this really a like paying tax on our pets, it as fast way for the state to made money. Next we'll have to put seat belts on our coffee cups so they will not tip over and spill hot coffee on us.

That is true but making a person pay a $1000 is a crime itself!

Our cat threw a hissy fit when I was taking him to the Vet...perhaps you can get a mild tranquiller from the Vet for ur Cat?....before his/her riding in the car, and crate the cat.

As for a seat belt on my 10 lb doggie...don't think that would work. So those living in NJ just might have to crate their cat/dog while riding in the car....MY doggie loves to ride in the car, even begs to go with me everywhere....hope that Law will not take effect in Florida.

You can buy a harness that hooked on the seat belt buckle . The dog can still move around . I still it would be real painful to have a dog sit up like a person on a long drive.

I do not likes the looks of this seat belt for dogs. if you had to stop fast the dog could get hurt real bad.
You will have to really be careful putting a seat belt on your pets , you could end doing more harm than good.

Hey honey - where is my rubber bungee cord? I gotta strap the dog down!!

I don't like the idea of putting tranquilizer in my cat. I don't want to damage her immune system further. She has allergic issues. My cat doesn't need tranquilizer. I always find the way to ask a driver who can drive me to a vet's office while my cat feels comfortable with me sitting on my lap during the ride.

I have a feeling that the lawmakers have been looking for an excuse to create the bad law, so they can rip off taxpayers.

Safety Belt for Cats: great bargain at zooplus

I found his seat belt for cats , I think is it bad idea putting a cat in a seat belt.
You'll have to bring a cat carrier too and get the cat in it while in the car and made sure no one open a door until the cat is in the carrier.

I wouldn't worry too much about this. We have seatbelt and cellphone laws. How often do they get fined? and I can easily foresee that sooner or later, this law will be revised or repealed.

I thought this over very carefully since I do have a special love of animals, and I wondered: I never heard of an accident where an unrestrained animal became a flying object that interfered with a drive. I live in a big city with news about almost everything that happens, yet I never heard of this. I tried to find statistics, but couldn't. Is this really a problem?

In England the driver can not be holding a cup and drinking while driving, I mean drinking a coke or coffee not alcohol. You can get a ticket if they catch you taking a sip. And you can't smoke a cigarette while driving.

Next they'll be fined for talking to their passenger because it takes their mind off the road.
