Hi All !
I am a hearing Physician Assistant finishing up a certificate in ASL.
I am honored to be among you on this site.
The practice I work for has a few deaf patients and I wonder if they will
be relieved that I can sign a LITTLE- to ease our communication- or will I be more work for them than it is worth!? (given the absence of interpreter)
Any thoughts?

Welcome. I think it is great you will be able to sign to your patients. I always welcome it when anyone in a store or office wants to sign to me. :)

Though you are not (yet?) a qualified interpretor, it is so very welcoming to have someone who cares enough to "speak" your language. I am so happy that someone tries to communicate by signing. If you were here, it would be a deciding factor for me on whether or not I saw that particular MD. Yes, it would be worth it!

An ounce of sign goes a long way. I know from experience as I am learning asl. It is appreciated when you try to learn another language. Just be wary of signs that you do not understand and be sure to clarify if you don't understand them.

Welcome to AD!

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. I am glad that you have already learned ASL and can use the ASl to communicate with Deaf patients. This is really important when we need to understand about our health issues. I hope you have fun reading and posting all the threads here. See you around.
