Hy everyone,

My name is Jeni.

about a year ago i was in a bad car accident. The air bags deployed and the impact of the air bag and how loud it was caused what they call acoustic trauma which ruptured my ear drum, and the middle ear bones became disrupted. I have been deaf for about a year now. it's been tough i'm now 20 years old and have to admitt it's scary for me. I'm doing fine though because i was taking sign language classes before the accident for pleasure and now i'm glad i did. Just hoping to meet some new friends and talk to some great people!!!

Welcome to All Deaf. You will do fine since you learned sign language.

Any sudden change can be traumatic but I am glad that you have the advantage in knowing some sign before hearing loss. You have picked a really good place to hook up with people that know where you are coming from so jump right in and enjoy! :welcome: and good luck

Welcome to Ad and hope u have fun posting in here and getting as much information yu can about your deafness and hope it will help ease ur burden a little.

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. I am sorry about the bad accident you had about a year ago. Becoming a late Deafen, you will adjust to the no sound and live with it. I am glad you took ASL and hope you adjust being with Deaf people. Now you will know what Deaf or knowing what it is like to lose your hearing loss. Also I am glad you don't have to use lipreading to understand people's lips to understand what they say. Just use pad paper and pen to write between hearing people and yourself. I am glad you are here. Enjoy reading and posting all the threads here. Have fun with us. See you around.
