Finally....after a long drawn out battle to get better hearing aids, my Dad just got his new Dream HA from Widex from the VA Hospital. He has been wearing them all day and really loving the sound. He had Starkey before and it didn't work right from the car ride home and just never got fixed right. The Widex worked right out of the box and he was delighted. He's going to my sister in Maryland tomorrow and will be wearing them the whole time. I really love happy endings....

I love stories with happy endings too. Now your dad can really enjoy his trip being able to hear better.

:)happy for your dad

my hub is hopefully getting new ones soon. His have been back and forth for repairs for years and he's currently using loaners from an independent audi. He has Resounds digitals with multiple programs. He's excited about the possibility of finally getting some new ones.

My audi was telling me the new hearing aids are better than the one I now have , I will of had mine 5 years next May . I guess there been more improvement . I was told the voices sound more normal on the new HA .
I hope your husband get new HA soon .

:wave:thanks

I'm thinking 5 years is a long time to have HA's? I think hub had his <that have been out for repair for maybe a year now> for 5 or more years.
He loves to learn about and repair technology. I guess there's often new things coming up in how hearing aids improve.

My insurance cover new HA for every 5 years . I been lucky and not needed to send my in to get fixed . I could of gotten new ear molds if I needed to , but my audi did a good job in making the molds for my ears. I will have to made sure he is the person I go to see when I get new ones. He travel out of the country each year to help people that can't afford to buy hearing aids. I tried to take my body HA apart when I was little girl . I always saw my dad taking things apart , it was a good thing I was able to do this . Dad would had taken me apart!

oh wow that's pretty good about your insurance. Ours -like most- doesn't cover.
Seems like you like your audi. My husband has been with this person for a while and really likes him, he likes to be able to get into very technical, electronic-related detail about these kinds of things.

I can imagine your dad's response if you'd got your aids apart:aw:

Yes I like my audi but he not in the office all the time he has other audis working there , one woman take forever just to put a new tube on my HA. My dad was very short on words he was a hands on person so I was very lucky I didn't take my HA apart.

My father went through a lot with the VA to get these hearing aids. He was about to give up when I finally convinced him the Widex would be different. I took time off from work to go with him (and my job was not happy with that), but I'm glad I did. The kick in the head is the VA seems to know only about the hearing aids they like to push - Starkey. What scares me is that I knew more about the hearing aids than the Audi did and I'm ticked off that she said he "may decide you don't need the M Dex or TV Dex." Fat chance...he's entitled to it. I'm frustrated that she didn't mention any of the programs in the hearing aids either so I need to go back with him to get it straightened out.

When it comes to hearing aids for you or your loved one, remember Audis don't know everything. You need to educate yourself and be your own best advocate.

This is so true ! I had a few clients that had hearing aids that fix right in their ears , the families was told the HA was 'good for all kind of hearing lost '. The HA end up in drawers collecting dust . And some of my clients were not able to put a new battery in b/c it was too hard for them with their arthritis hands . The family complained to me that they paid for the HA and their parent is not using it. It really does pay to "educate yourself " . Good for you for advocating for your dad !
