I have a brother with special needs and he needs to change his hearing aids. The basic difficutly is that my brother does not respond well to the audiogram proceedure audiograph and since his hearing disability is brain related (caused by encephitis at a small age) his evoked potentials test does not give reliable results. So the audiogram in my signature is an approximate upper limit of the actual values.
Since in my country we do not typicaly have the posibility to test the hearing aids before purchase, I try to collect as much information about them as possible either from other people or from various reviews. His last hearing aids was the Widex Senso C18+.
The HAs we are considering are Widex Clear/Super 330 (since his past HA are from Widex), Phonak Naida Q70 (beign water resistant), Unitron Moxi 2 (good technician on the last two) and Siemens Pure/Motion XCEL. We also asked at Sonic's representative but the reply we got was rather suppicious (he said that Sonic is the leading HA manufacturer and the competition just follows their inovations). We also know of a very good technician that seems to have the patience required to work with my brother at Belton but I have not found any substantial information about it (except that it is a ReSound franchise). When trasitioning from one HA to another I have read about various issues with adusting to the new sound. Such issues relate to differences in the number of channels between HAs, transitioning from BTE to RITE/RIC, changing the manufacturer ect.

Could you please help me out on this purchase by sharing your opinions and/or experiences you might have on any of the previous hearing aids as well as any suggestions regarding the selection of my brother's hearing aids? What HA do you think would make the transition more tolerable?

It's pretty individual, and I know the Widex you are considering is a very good hearing aid.

My husband has Siemen's Pure and he loves them as the most natural sound.

I use the Widex Clear 440 and I love the sound. I had Starkey before that and I must have been back and forth to the audi about six or seven times for adjustements and it was still not right and uncomfortable wearing, sound wise. I had two adjustments for the Widex, both minor and and they've been great. I was delighted with the sound quality and I consider them to be the best purchase I've made. However, hearing aids are a lot like looking at a painting in a museum...everyone sees the same thing but they take away something different from the experience. If you've had positive experiences with one brand and you've been happy with the product, I'd stay with it. I know I'll be staying with Widex when it's time to upgrade.

picked the Naida since I'm about to upgrade soon in January so I might try that option next year as soon as I get my official status in 2014!!!! (my hearing will fluctuate so it may be tricky!)
reason: my hearing aids are almost 3 years old, warrenty goes bye-bye in April and as ya'll know, my left is bad in the lows as you can read my signature.
*Siemens are great too since I still have my 1st hearing aid which is good use for backup in my bad ear lol*
