Hey all!

I am frustrated and need to rant a bit so be warned!:giggle:

I have gone unaided for 6 years, now after realizing how bad my hearing is getting after a recent audiogram I have decided to start using HA's again. I have gone from a mild hearing loss in my right ear, and mild-moderate in my left ear to moderate-profound in my right and severe-profound in my left. I have profound loss at both the high and the low frequencies and I am better in the middle. Anyway to get to the point, I had an appointment for last friday to get my new HA's. My audi called me on Thursday and said the earmolds weren't in yet but they would be in on Monday so I could come in on Tuesday just to be sure. So I had an appointment for tomorrow and Today I got another call saying they won't be in until wednesday morning so they wanted me to come in on Wednesday afternoon instead. I am a full time student and I have a job so for me to rearrange my schedual is very inconvenient but I did it anyway. I just want to get my HA's and 'move on' with my life. Waiting sucks!:giggle: Anyone else have similar experiences? I also have OCD so maybe this is a little more frustrating for me than others LOL...but still... don't know I needed to rant! Hopefully all will go well and Wednesday I will have my new HA's...I will keep ya posted!

I have gone without HA since umm say last time I worn them when I was 18, then again at age 24, then after that none for up until now 2008 which I'm now 32 years old. I had two kinds of HAs One was Digital and other one is Conventional Super Power for profound hearing loss. I told him that I want in Purple, and if they don't come in that then go on with Brown/Taupe. When I got them today and MY GOD I felt so much better and able to hear the sounds around my surrounding. When I was in line I can hear someone talking as my ears were adjusting to the noise around me. NOW with my mother geez! she be coming in my room testing my hearing and see if I would turn around when she calls me and I DID. She's so HAPPY that I got my HAs back in my ears and now my voice is under control along with my speech when I am having conversation with my mother. The important thing I realized that I choose which is right for me, not because of Color only what works for my hearing. I have been wearing them SINCE I came home from my Audiologist.

I know how you feel and I've been there waiting almost 2 months for HAs when I went in on Dec 10th for get ear molds made, then January 2008 said they were no good, because they wait too long for letter from VR to say that I have been approved for new HAs and will be paid for. They had to remake me new ear molds so I wait about 2 weeks. It was worth the wait and Now I feel Better to be able to hear sounds again. It's worth it.

I have OCD too, I don't have hearing aid anymore because I have cochlear implant I got it last month on 15th I'll get it activated in 1 week. I understand how you feel, since I've been profoundly deaf for few years now I used to be almost mild but moderately hoh too since birth and wore ha all my life till 17 it stopped working for me (I literally lost my hearing overnight!) and I had no idea till I finally have time to take hearing test and found out I have profound hearing loss so I tried out hearing aid and omg it was horrible experience so I got cochlear implant. Hearing aid and mold is actually nothing compared to waiting for CI OMG! NOW that's an wait! I waited 9 months! But after I got surgery, waiting for activation actually felt LONGER its driving me nuts cuz I haven't heard a real sound for 3 years!

Good luck! Hope your HA fitting goes well on Wednesday.

Well, at least next time you can ask audi to send ear moles to you home so you do not have to go to audi office.

Oh, God, JennyB, please don't put moles in your ears! That would only make things worse.:giggle: Those furry little creatures would probably tunnel all the way into your brain!

No, the little mpouse like animals that burrow under the ground. But you are right. The wicked witch has moles on her face, too!:giggle:

I got my new HA's...Holy **** the world is loud! I can only stand it for about 30 mins at a time right now. i am like a cat, I spook at EVERYTHING!

And yes I agree...I shouldn't be putting moles in my ear ;)

HOpefully the adjustment period isn't too too long! i will continue to update!

if you think that's loud, the CI is even louder. LOL! At least to me it is.

Yeah, your ears will adjust. Your ears haven't been simulated in quite a while, so it's getting a shock. It should take a few hours or so. Sit in a quiet room, turn the TV to very low volume, then over time it will be better. If it's still very loud after a week or so, it's probably the programming (if you have digital ones).

Wish you best of luck!

It's getting better now. I have been forcing myself to keep them on for a little longer. I have been alone in my appartment with them on for about 3 hours now...I no longer freakout when I hear my keyboard typing sounds :P...that's improvment!

I thought my cat was dying earlier...turns out it was just purring! Go figure! lol...I was freaking out, thought he was choking or something LOL

Glad all is going well for u!

I didnt wear HAs for 4 years cuz I was pissed at the world but eventually I started missing them. When I put them on for the first time in 4 years, the sounds were too uncomfortable at first but I got used to them again. :)

LOL,that is too funny. Hang in there through your adjustment period. It can be exhausting being bombarded with all those new sounds. And, evidently, pretty scary, too!

That's how I felt when I first came home with my new HAs, OH BOY I could hear my mother talking and her VOICE. When I was watching TV and I turn to my mother and told her to SHH I'm watching TV. My mother said to me NOW YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL when you talking to me as I'm trying to listen to my Stories (Soap Operas). LMAO

First few hours I was starting to get an headache, but I force myself to get usual to them again and adjust the volume. Most of the times My HAs be on number 2 and half. when it start to whistling I turn them down to 2 or 1 and half. I may have to go back in to have my ear molds remake to little bit thick, because when I smile or start laughing my ear molds start to feel loose and cause whistling.

Today went MUCH better!!!

I was able to hear and focus on a particular sound which was very good!

That being said though, my audi had turned 'easy phone' on so that when I pick up the phone they switch to t-coil automatically. This would have been good but they also switch out of t-coil as they please, and often in the middle of a phone call. I emailed my audi and she got me in for an appointment 30 minutes later to fix this! I LOVE this audi! It is the first time I have had an audi that listens to me! She checks her emails often throughout the day and replys fast, she is super nice and really takes her time to go over everything with me. She also didn't push the HA's on me. It is a small clinic, just her and a secretary. They both knew me by name after my first appointment and are so friendly.

Sorry to go on and on about the amazing audi but it's my first experience with someone who CARES about what I think! It's strange!...but good!
