I've only had hard earmolds and as I am going to be stunting quite a bit this summer I would rather have soft earmolds as sometimes i get hit and it hurts. lol I was looking at soft ones and my audi mentioned a few diff materials of soft ones..i didn't know there were that many? or is there one that they mainly use, i.e. silicone? do soft molds make your ears sweat more? j.w. lol

There are different materials, polyethalene (sp?) which is a bit of a harder soft material and I don't find it to be comfortable at all. Silicon is used often and i find them to be quite comfortable there are also other materials that are specific for the companies with funny little trade marked names. I believe those are the two big ones though.

Yes, they do make your ears sweat more. When I had soft molds I would take them out everyonce and a while and whipe them off or they would get slippery and slide out a bit.

They are a lot safer for activities where ear related trauma may occur. They is in part why they are almost always used for kids.

Ive always worn soft molds. I remember one time I tried a strange, harder mold and it was very uncomfortable. Waste of $150 and hours of time. My audiologist mentioned something about silicone 2 as being the best.

I know I have silicone molds and I like them. What Jenny said about taking them out and wiping them down does help too.

I have the silicone too, it's desgined for newborns/babies since i am allegric to all earmoulds but this!!

I found this very comfy and wear it all the time, i ride horses, ski, race boats in all sorts of weather never had problem.

And thanks guys I will ask my audi about the silicone ones..i think this time i mite get colored molds as well:)

Anyhow hope you can find the right earmolds. I'm not too keen on them myself, as I've always used the same hard casing.

Does anyone know if the type of material used reflects how much earwax and ear canal perspiration is generated? Like I remember with my old ones I used to have as a kid, there was a lot of "smelly" wax that would grow on it. I think they were standard silicone, since this was the early 90's.

I had a silicone before and loved it! In a few years later, then i asked for the cheap one last summer. I really regret that my current mold is hard and I HATE it so much. I realize that silicone soft stays longer than hard one. it's a must for me that I plan to get a silicone again this coming summer.

Anyways I think I'm going to go for the silicone with clear and pink swirly colors ...my audi had mentioned new molds b4 anyways since mine have too large vents now. She just plugged them up a bit.

Do you know that you can add glitters to it? There's red, blue, green, silver and purple glitters. My earmold's clear with silver glitter lol

I used to wear hypoallergenic Lucite earmolds when I wore hearing aids due to skin irritation. I've always worn this type of earmold and found it very comfortable -- so comfortable in fact that 99% of the time I couldn't tell that I was wearing them.

I've tried soft Patriot earmolds, but they caused a great deal of pain when inserting and removing them. I also couldn't get them to stay in my ears even when I used ointment. I have very small ear canals, so this may have been why.

Soft moulds can not usually be vented, so if you are used to vented ear moulds you may find that soft moulds feel like your ears are blocked up more. I've never had vented moulds, so I don't know what they feel like. When I was a child I had hard moulds, without vents, and I remember when I changed to soft moulds they felt a much tighter fit

You raise a good point. I've always required vents which is another reason why I've used Lucite earmolds.

Without vents in my earmolds, I would get frequent ear infections and my voice would always sound like I was in a barrel.

I used to have silicon skeleton molds back in the day and they had vents...

I like the silicone molds too. They are soooo comfortable. Last week I did not realize I my hearing aid had fallen off when I got out of my car at work. Two hours later, I realized the hearing aid was not on my ear. I went out to the parking lot an there it was. If one of the trucks had run over it, I would have kissed $2900 goodbye. I noticed the mold had a rip in it so I am getting a new one. It will have a purple cats eye design which will go with my hot pink hearing aid. I bought some crystals to put on the hearing aid so I am really going to have a blinged out ear.

I had to get silicone earmold. for a long time I had regular earmold and I would just stratch and stratch my ears. My old audi though I was just stratching it raw or picking at it due to sweat (I was a child) and he told me to stop doing that. My ears never did improve (that is never got healed even when I was all grown up) . I finally went to a new audi after graduation. He noticed my ears and said that I ought to try the silicone type. so I did and boy it made a huge improvment within a month after all those years. I didn't realize I was allergic to regular earmold, I really did thought that my habitually scratching it was the reason my ears were raw. Not allergy reaction.

I just googled Patriot earmoulds to find out what they are. Mine are definitely not Patriot, they are full shell, but Patriot look quite interesting and quite a few people seem to like them.

I think the reason why some soft moulds can't have vents is because the soft material tends to enclose around them closing up the vents, and of course vents cause feedback in high gain HAs.
