Okay I just got back from my NEW Audi appointment and I have to say my old Audi was an absolute MORON! I hate saying that about him because he was so nice but seriously, my audiogram he gave me was all wrong his methods, everything! I am so upset right now but the good thing that came from it is I found an Audi who is going to help me.

We took clay impressions today and I am going from this Starkey Zon 7 to the Destiny Power 1200. My hearing was off on the audigram by nearly 20 decibels! It was no wonder I couldn't hear anything!!! I trusted him and we figured out that my old Audi was someone who just wants to sell a hearing aid, it makes me sad because I wonder how many other people he has done it to and I trusted him!

So everyone please make sure you trust your Audi and if you have questions ASK them and make sure you are getting the answers you want. If it weren't for this new place being so nice and understanding I would be out $5,000.00 but they are taking them as a trade in and only going to charge me for service, BLESS them!

New and correct Audiogram:

Right Ear:

250hz 80db
500hz 80db
1000hz 80db
2000hz 90db
4000hz 95db
8000hz 95db

Left Ear:

250hz 70db
500hz 70db
1000hz 75db
2000hz 85db
4000hz 85db
8000hz 95db

Been there, done that. I had an audi who told me I couldn't benefit from digital aids because my hearing loss was too severe. As it turned out, he didn't know the first thing about how to program digital aids. I ended up firing him after 3 visits. I'm glad you finally found an audi you can trust. :)

Sorry about your old audi... that kinda sucks but now you found a new and better one! :D That's cool!

I was terrified during summer vacation when I had to sought out for a dentist (since I had an extreme emergency) and of course my dentist was on vacation!!! urgh... I have never been more glad to see my dentist when he was back! He was pissed at the other dentist because he needed to pull my tooth out at the end because the other one had completely messed it up!!! :( I was soooo :mad2:

This only to say that it is good when you have a doctor whom you can trust!

Anyway... *sigh* Good Luck with your new audi! I see they have been very helpful to you already!

<hug> Jamie

I am glad you found someone that will help you.

Hope your new hearing aids will benefit you more than your old ones. :)

You said in another post you were happy with the Starkey Zon 7, now you say they are too weak? Did your hearing suddenly worsen again?

I checked the specs and the Starkey Zon 7 is for mild to moderate hearing loss. It's an open fit, I believe. You have a severe hearing loss. I checked the gain of the Destiny Power 1200 and here is what I got:

125Hz: 50db(estimated)
250Hz: 54db
500Hz: 60db
1000Hz: 70db
2000Hz: 64db
4000Hz: 58db
max is about 6500Hz!

Your best aided scores(with your worse right ear) with the given gains will be:

125Hz: 25db(estimated)
250Hz: 26db
500Hz: 20db
1000Hz: 10db
2000Hz: 26db
4000Hz: 37db
You won't hear anything at 8000Hz with those HA's. But few HAs can even amplify 8000Hz and with your loss, youd barely hear anything at 8000Hz. You however should hear 6000Hz, the gain is 50db at that frequency. Youll hear best at 1000Hz with decent hearing at low frequencies. If you wish to hear low frequencies better, the Phonak Naida V SP or UP is a better bet. If your audie gives you a choice of trade in for other brands, why limit yourself to trying one brand? Maybe youll prefer a different brand, no harm in trying. At least you will be able to hear the high frequencies of 2000Hz to 6000Hz+ that I can't hear.

I could share my experience with the audiologists ive been to. One of them was like a used car salesman, he was rushing me to buy those HAs at $5600 for a pair. I didn't want those since they weren't any better than the ones I got from my favoriate audie back in 1998. I tried them for 5 min in his office and noticed no difference. He still suggested I try them for a month, my dad politely declined and he got mad saying "what's there to think about, those HAs are the best!"

When we got home, my dad knew that if we did a 30 day trial, he would never accept them back and we would be out $5600 for a sidegrade. Very expensive for a pair of spare HAs that I don't really need. I decided to just wait for better HA technology and 3 years later I am in those Naidias. They don't seem to make much of a difference in the mid frequencies but a huge difference in the lows. Maybe my favoriate audie(the same one who fitted me with the Widex Senso back in 1998) can reprogram my Naidias so ill better hear mid frequencies.

Well yes I have had another drop in my hearing, and I do like the Zon 7 they are a great hearing aid. But even with my old audio gram the new audi said he would have never put them on me, even with the new 50 gain receiver i had on them... we will see. the new one is a power aid a lot bigger but he explained everything to me. I could try another brand but I do like Starkey. Even though I have never tried anything else. These ones are pushed to about the max also. I just trusted him to know know what he was doing and do what he thought was best but noone predicted my loss in his defense.

candybrowneyes, unfortunately, it sounds like you have had the same path with Meneire's that I have. You rarely mention vertigo, but you often mention tinnitus and hearing loss. How long has it been since you were diagnosed with MM?
I also was happy with my first ha (open fit Delta by Oticon) and less than six months later it no longer helped and I got the Inteo Widex. That lasted less than six months also, which was why I ended up with a CI. Even the best/strongest ha can only last so long when your hearing deteriorates as fast as it can with MM.
In defense of your old audi, even though I don't know him, the sudden loss that can happen with MM makes it so hard to find the right ha. What worked once, in just a short time, can become obsolete. And, I am not trying to freak you out...my first ENT told me that bilateral hearing loss for those with MM was unusual, but it does happen. Just stating the facts for me...
