Hi, well i guess i need to talk to some one about my hearing and or lack of. I've worn hearing aids for a long time. My problem now is I can hear sounds but my ears don't process the words right. It's hard to explain to my wife that I can hear her say things I just can't understand or process what it is she is saying. My oldest granddaughter works with mentally challenged people. She has 3 men that she works with, one is deaf. I watch her tonight as she had invited/brought them to her birthday dinner at a resturant. I was in awe to watch how easy she was able to communicate with them. I guess what I'm saying is is it time to learn sign now.

What kept you from learning sign language before?

By the way, welcome!

Welcome! I'm so sorry you are feeling misunderstood and alone. You are not alone, that I promise you, and your wife may simply be as uncomfortable as you are with what is going on, though I am less sure on this point. In any case, it's never too late to learn something new, and I'll bet that sign will increase your confidence in yourself and your ability to communicate. Your granddaughter may be willing to help you, don't you think? I hope you find the support you need here, I think you will!

I sign very tiny amount of ASL and PSE... have forgotten much since days of working with mixed hearing/hoh, Deaf adults and kids.

Husband has moderate-severe bilateral hearing loss, raised oral.
