need some feedback on different ITPs

Tonight was my last ASL class, and to celebrate we all went out to eat. Well the conversation topic evolved to one person discussing their daughter attending an Interpreting Training Program. Our teacher explained that she had several students of hers before go to ITPs and learn to be interpreters. So this has revived the idea of me attending an ITP. Since there is no such available programs here in Memphis, I'd have to move to a new town, which is something I've been wanting to do. Of course, I'd want to stay here in the south. I've considered several different locations, including Georgia Perimeter College in Atlanta, Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN, Nashville State Community College, University of Tennessee, and most recently, University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I was curious if anyone has any feedback to offer about this prospective schools, and any helpful information concerning the location. Of course employment and residence is a factor, and in fact living in a dorm might be an option I'd want to consider. Can any help me here? I know several people have had good things to say about GPC in Atlanta, but I'm curious about the others. Anything you have to offer is helpful.

Move to San Marcos (40 minutes north of San Diego) and go to Palomar Community College!!!

Their ITP progam is the best in San Diego County, imo. :thumb: There are several universities that offers interpreting majors like Western Oregon University, Wright State (Ohio), and many more...

But you said "the South"-- you mean the SOUTH, SOUTH? Not the whole Southern states of U.S.A. which includes Arizona, New Mexico and California? I guess California is out of question if you want to stay in THE South.

South as in Southeastern, hick-infested United States. But who knows. I've considered moving other places, even like New York and Chicago. Just not Mississppi. I can't stand Mississippi. As soon as I cross the border, I feel like I've time traveled back half a century. I guess I didn't want to scurry too far from Memphis for visits back. Although, I'm not saying I would rule out a move to California. (BEACHES!!!)

Two more for you

Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY has a four year degree. I've been by their ASL lab once, but didn't get a chance to really ask about their program.

I graduated from San Antonio College's ITP this past May. It's a two year degree, but has 15-20 different classes in the program alone. It could be too far from home for you. PM me if you want more info and I'll get a link for you.

my fiancee graduated at university at tenn in knox with 4 yrs degree. It has good ITP. GPC is good too... i know some friends/interpreters who finished ITP at GPC. Some get jobs right away after passing their exams.

Kentucky I would be willing to consider. Texas... not so much. Right now I'm leaning towards Nashville because of its location, and I'm already semi familiar with the area. Plus I would have a roommate lined up if I moved there. But you n ever know. I need to decide what is important and how my living situation might be.

I was going to recommend EKU also. I have heard they have a pretty decent program although I don't know anybody who went there.

I'm really interested in hearing more about Nashville State Community College, but no one seems to have any information on their program. Can anyone help me with this? Perhaps contact info or website?

Thanks. I think I've seen that webpage before. I'm hoping to find some contact information. I guess I'll need to call the college's main office.
