Need a Name Sign, but need confirmation?

Hello! I'm hearing but I really need a name sign. My name is Kat and I am very creative, so would using the letter 'K' and the hand motion for the word 'creative' work? If not, what else could I use? (I paint and draw.)

Also, my boyfriend kind-of needs one too. He's always angry and grouchy, and doesn't like people. His name starts with a 'J'.
 
why? why do you think you can just ask like that? not all have name signs.
seems like this is just something "fun/cute" for you
 
If you and your boyfriend just plan to use ASL to sign to each other, then you can do whatever you want. But if you plan any form of interaction with a member of the deaf community, then selecting your own name sign will be considered offensive. Think of it as a form of tribal acceptance. dogmom is right; you can't just ask if you can use a particular sign or invent a sign for yourself. It is a gift given to you, not one which you can give yourself. Use the generic K and J on the left shoulder until you are given a name sign by a member of the community.
 
I'm curious why you think you "need" a name sign and why your boyfriend "kind-of needs" one?
