Anyone know the origin/meaning of the name sign for Chicago? A friend was asking tonight.

It's like percent but a C- handshape I believe.

C-shape, but you can either go from right to left, OR snap your C-wrist in the city name. There may/may not be a YouTube editorial showing that.
 
I've seen the sign. My friend posted it. He was curious why it's done that way (C across & down).
A friend of his posted that it used to be the "where" C, but evolved to the across & down (kinda like drawing a 7).
