AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — A man wearing nothing but a cowboy hat walked down the middle of the travel lanes on northbound I-75 through the snowstorm Sunday, surprising motorists before police stopped him.
Cars stopped, and Francis Gojcaj, 35, recorded the bizarre scene on video near University Drive, as snow fell in the subfreezing weather.
"He had this look on his face," Gojcaj said. "He wouldn't look at anyone, wouldn't make eye contact."
Police responded to the call at about 11:37 a.m., finding the man walking with his clothes off and his vehicle in a nearby ditch, said Auburn Hills police Lt. Casismir Miarka. He said police brought the man to a nearby fire station before he was taken to a hospital.
The incident is being reviewed, and police haven't yet decided whether to pursue criminal charges, possibly for indecent exposure, Miarka said.
Gojcaj said he watched as the man walked up to a police car, put his hands in the air and behind his back.
"It's sad, you know, because you can only hope that there isn't some type of mental disorder here, or this man is undergoing some serious psychological issues," he said. "I have no idea what his intent was."
On Jan. 24, a 25-year-old man was stopped while running naked in Madison Heights. He ran from officers and said he needed to go where there was sun, the Associated Press reported.
After pushing an officer, the man was handcuffed and taken into custody. He was hospitalized for psychiatric observation, according to the AP.
