A 14-year veteran of the Newton, New Jersey, police force has pleaded guilty after being accused of exposing himself to male drivers during traffic stops over a 7-month period last year.
Jason Miller, 37, was arrested in November 2014, and this week he placed guilty to turning off his dashboard camera "to conceal unprofessional and inappropriate conduct" between March 1, 2014 and Oct. 23, 2014.
The investigation started after the Newton Police Department received anonymous tips that Miller had exposed himself to drivers between the ages of 18 and 26. Authorities found footage of Miller’s actions on his dashboard camera, My9NJ reported.
When he turned himself in on Nov. 17, 2014, he was charged with two counts of official misconduct, one count of a pattern of official misconduct and one count of lewdness. He was released on $35,000 bail at the time and was ordered to surrender any firearms.
Miller will also be banned form seeking any law enforcement officer positions in New Jersey. He is currently suspended from the police force indefinitely without pay, NJ Advance Media reported. Additionally, the state is seeking a 60-day sentence in county jail for Miller, who may also be placed on probation for up to five years.
His sentencing will be conducted on Aug. 7.
Miller’s attorney, Anthony Iacullo, said that if there “was anything” Miller regrets, it would be not "ensuring that his equipment was in proper working order or activating it so that his dialogue would have been preserved to refute these frivolous allegations."
