I used to catch garden snakes in AZ as a kid. I loved it but I stayed away from the water snakes. I was told that they were poisonous in AZ.

I used to catch garden snakes myself... or the little ring neck ones I think is what my father used to call them... harmless little black snakes. Now I have a pet snake and I love her! I think snakes are cute and adorable. Mine likes to cuddle!
